I can answer that question for myself as a veteran of the U.S. Navy, and as a veteran who was in Afghanistan, and as someone who was in the military before 9/11. Here is my answer: Considering the military decisions made over the last twenty years in regards to Afghanistan, including the constant lies regarding the ANA performance to the public, the deflection and hesitancy from the military brass when asked by three consecutive presidents to withdraw over a 10+ year period, and the greed which had developed due to the military industrial complex lining the pockets of all the four-stars involved in this fiasco. Yes, I believe the U.S. military did not have a plan for withdrawal.They thought they could leave like thieves in the night, instead of holding a proper change of command for Bagram, like SOP demands, because there was NO PLAN for withdrawal. Those involved in the 20 year clusterfuck couldn't figure out a way to suddenly make the ANA into the fighting army they claimed it was overnight, and they really weren't sure how to prepare because the whole mess was a clusterfuck. I assure you most enlisted veterans feel like I feel. They were tired of seeing their friends and family blown up, maimed, killed, or wounded in that shithole. When anyone who had EVER served in Afghanistan KNEW the nation-building mission was a failure. I don't know why you think some moral injury that some veterans may feel (I think that's crap btw) is moral injury all veterans feel. We are not a monolithic group by any means. Cleary evident by the fact we are arguing about this and we are both, veterans!

Sit down and ask them if our military on their own would have planned this type of withdrawal that had afghans running after transport planes on runways, abandoned American citizens in country at the mercy of a hostile government and left billions of dollars of advanced military equipment behind for the terrorists. As a veteran I can assure you they would be happy to have a mellow and informative conversation with you. Whether you do this or not is none of my business, but I hope you will allow yourself this opportunity God Bless …your fellow American
