Japanese Americans incarcerated during WWII remembered in sacred book of names

More than 125,000 people of Japanese ancestry were wrongfully incarcerated in the United States during World War II. Now a 1,000-page book called the Ireichō collects those names for the first time, allowing visitors to honor their loved ones and ensuring that dark chapter of history will never be forgotten. The experience of seeing the book at the Japanese American National Museum is a personal one for NBC News’ Emilie Ikeda: her own family members were held in the camps. She shares their stories and stamps their names in the book to honor their painful experiences.

  1. My grandmother, German, made sure not to speak during WWII. Only way she could be identified

  2. I have friends whose parents were interred in the camps. I will check to see if their names are in the book.

  3. Amazing. And my other tabs here are vloggers I follow livestreaming from Japan. As I'm watching this.

  4. Don’t worry. USA is built on hypocrisy, this will happen again if the decide to invade China.

  5. It's Black History Mouth …. No Tangibles No Vote

  6. So powerful, thanks for sharing.

  7. FROZE CONs don't like story, afraid of truths. WOKE vs FROZE

  8. Sometimes America overreacts – shooting down errant middle school balloon science projects with half million dollar missiles or incarcerating thousands of American citizens based on nothing but the shape of their facial features.

  9. They didn't see the Japanese planes coming the same way they didn't see the balloons.

  10. George Takei (Star Trek) was in Tule Internment Camp. 😢

  11. There was also 10,000 American Italians who were sent to internment camps in WW2.

  12. They should explain why this happened.
It's because a Japanese couple helped a Japanese pilot that participated in Pearl Harbor and they where trying to get him back to Japan.
Don't ever forget WW2 was a war of nationalities not a war of politics or money.

  13. americans killed in iwo jima / pearl habour / saipan / philipines would be proud

  14. Don't be fooled, something like this can happen again.
