Our judicial system is lazy and the legislature is made up of 120 loudmouths. Israel is not turning into a dictatorship – we are not organized or disciplined enough as a nation to run a dictatorship. Our laws are written in an amateurish way that allows for too much interpretation and this regularly causes problems. Israel's Human Dignity and Liberty foundational law of 1992, was written so poorly, it didn't bother to specify basic rights like freedom of speech, Association and religion and just encapsulated all of these rights under the term "dignity". With time "dignity" became so vague that anything could be put under it and the courts were the only one who could interpret what does "dignity" mean. A few years ago there was a crisis of immegrants from Eritreat who overwhelmed the south of Tel aviv (the # of immegrants was equal to 13% of tel aviv's population). Any action to deport them was blocked because "dignity" . With the government paralyzed by the courts many Israelis were left to deal with the crisis by themselves. This and many more cases created a lot of negative feelings toward the Judiciary System, the results of which you're seeing now.
