If people don't have to pay rent, they have more money to buy food and they wouldn't be stealing. Get rid of all the police. Save that money and give it to the homeless. then Portland would have less crime. Make all type of drug legal in Portland and deal drug to other cities that need them. 🫢 I have 2 good buddies living near downtown Portland their apartments are very nice and expensive …BUT they wont leave the apartment after 9PM because of homeless and crime outside the apartment building .

Decriminalization of drugs has led to an explosion of meth, fentanyl and heroin. These are highly addictive drugs, after just a few uses. Eventually the users steal to support their habit because they need more and more, which affects the surrounding community. Continued use leads to unemployment, because they can't show up on time or work a solid day without using. That leads to no income and petty theft won't pay rent, so they become homeless. All throughout the process, they continue to steal to support their habit. One failing component of measure 110 is we don't require rehab. Only if someone seeks it out, which there have been literally, a few dozen documented cases for the last 2 years. A lot of shelters and programs don't allow drug use, so they can't use those programs. Portugal requires rehab for multiple offenses. All Portland did was decriminalize without the personal responsibility component. This is just a small part of the story in Portland.
