46:07 : I'm not saying the Finding Happiness piece is total garbage, but it's like putting a band aid on a gash that needs stitches in the emergency room. I've been in that worker bee situation, wrong city, wrong job, and so on; I've used such techniques, and while they may stave off a full blown panic attack 'in the moment' they are not at all helpful if your life is sad. Those techniques will at best help you survive daily stress, but not provide any real solution to your problems. They are also laser focused on the well off office worker types with comments like appreciating the smile on your barrista's face; my barrista?! Most normal people can't or outright won't pay four dollars or more for a coffee in a paper cup with a plastic lid when they can make their own, better coffee at home and put it in a travel mug or thermal bottle for about a dime–I also cook my own meals by the way, my homemade pasta sauce is way better than anything you can buy in a store and it takes no time to make.
The technique I used in my own self therapy, which I need less and less as I progress, is what I call "Talking To My Self Therapy" but is grounded in Psychology. Typically it involves reviewing the day, or asking myself what I want to talk about, just like a therapist I can't afford would do. I then talk through the things that are bothering me, like feeling I'm unproductive and making no progress, criticism I received, an argument I got into. After that I 'rethink' those things and realize that actually I am getting things done, that criticism was unjustified, and in the argument perhaps we were both right.
I also create happiness by, for example, the aforementioned cooking that I'm constantly improving, learning guitar, making videos, creating content that I post on social media, and generally sharing my happiness with others.
That 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 thing in particular would stress me out just trying to remember the whole thing. That's a total gimmick right up there with an office poster of a cat grabbing a tree branch with the caption "Hang In There." If you need that sort of technique just to stay buoyant, then you're taking on water faster than you can bail it out and need to take your mental health more seriously.
