Bytedance owns TikTok, the Chinese Communist Party owns Bytedance. Chinese law states that any Chinese citizen or employee of a Chinese company must comply with the CCP when called upon, for any reason, and that person must keep it confidential. It doesn't matter where this data is stored, Singapore, Virginia or Texas. This isn't literal paper data, it's code and computers and the Internet. It can be accessed at anytime, anywhere in the world.

If you are just as misinformed as the congress people here are a few points on why tiktok should NOT be banned. (Coming from a 17 year old kid from california)
1. The GOP received massive sums of money from META to start rumors about tiktok. This has been proven in leaked emails.
2. Tiktok has been a platform for hundreds of thousands of businesses. Regaining a following on another app is not guaranteed and is much more difficult to do. Many people rely on income from tiktok to support their own life along with their family if they have one.
3. Tiktok has stood in the way of META's and Google's monopoly of media. Mark Zuckerberg tried to buy tiktok many years ago, then tried to create a copy app, then has been lobbying to ban the app completely.
4. Tiktok has refused to let ANY government organization influence the content on the platform.
5. People in congress are so unbelievably old and out of touch. People in congress are mentally unable to fully understand tik tok and its role in the world. It is very likely that they were influenced by the rumors started by Meta and (probably) Google.
The list of reasons can go on and on so if i missed any important reasons feel free to respond.
Just let it be Ban and let move on to more important issues
