Why are assault rifles STILL on the market?!
I grew up safely handling firearms on a regular basis but never owned one as an adult. In high-school our ROTC class had an indoor range in which each ROTC class fired many thousands of rounds each year for students to qualify as Marksman, Sharpshooter, or Expert. I qualified as Sharpshooter, because the Expert qualification took to long. With approximately 180 trained ROTC shooters among a campus student population of about 3600, ANY mass-shooter entering our high-school campus would have had a VERY LOW success rate, & would not have left the campus alive. Each ROTC class of 30 students times six ROTC classes per day. Bellaire High, Houston Texas, 1970, with the 2nd-highest SAT scores in the nation at that time. 3600-plus students, with a graduating class of approximately 1180 that year.
assault rifles is the primer weapon used for these mass shootings, and we are now counting 109 of them this year. people argue that instead of completely banning them, just make the means to purchase these guns more strict, like giving thorough background checks and such. But most of these mass shooters have no criminal record and refuse to reach out to mental health resources, so giving them a background check wouldn’t solve the issue. These shooters were able to legally purchase these guns and by banning them, yes there may be a boom in the black market for them, but it will certainly limit their access to them and make it way harder to get their hands on them. Assault rifles also make it way easier to a large amount of kill people in a short period of time. I don’t know how I feel about regular guns, but it’s time to ban assault rifles
This is so upsetting. Lives lost due to someone who needed more counseling or different counseling. My condolences to the families who lost loved one and the children. So many children have been assaulted as children and as adults do not have the right tools to cope with the trauma. My goodness this kind of thing is happening too much. Please Christian family, it is time to invite people to church, make a list of neighbors to pray for and fast to stop this type of "common violence"!

This is so sad. I remember in the 90s doing safety drills for fires and earthquakes. The children of this generation have to do drills for school shootings. Almost like it's a normal thing and the reality is there is nothing normal about it. I wouldn't be able to send my child to school in times like these. This epidemic is getting worse.
I wonder if having a security guard posted outside would have made a difference. I'm glad they took him out, but I'm sure that's what he wanted —since he wrote a manifesto. If his parents were worried about him, why didn't they snoop around? Had they searched through his belonging, they would have likely found the manifesto and all the guns. It doesn't matter that he was 28 years old; he was living with his parents which gives them the right to snoop. Those poor people –RIP.

these are good well trained cops, they did what had to be done. you get a call like this, you are going in to kill, no questions asked, and in situations like this, there is no other option. you execute them on the spot. there is no redeeming or rehabilitating these types, there is no point in locking them up and going through court proceedings and wasting everyones time, resources and money. take em out right then and there. god job officers, my sincere condolences goes out to the students and staff, friends and families who will likely need years of therapy to work though having gone through this. sad thing too is, school shootings are actually not a relatively new thing, if you google search '' history of school shootings youll see that its been going on for decades since the early early days, but they are getting worse and this is yet more proof that mental health in this country is crisis, we have got to bring back mental institutions as well as pro active evaluations and involuntary commitment and treatment.

prayers are not enough ! people pray every time thins like this happen, but it keeps happening, its not a new thing, just google '' history of school shootings'' its gone on long before sandy hook, and columbine. what needs to happen is we need to back to what we used to do: proactive mental health screenings, pro active, on-going mental health treatment , including, yes, bring back institutionalize, and non-voluntary treatment and commitment.

Sorry to sound like a Debbie downer but, there's nothing that can be done. Police can't be everywhere all the time. So, when people call for more policing, you're just fooling yourself. That's not the answer. The answer is conceal and carry in all States if you choose for all non felons. People must protect themselves and others if needed. Also, police jobs isn't to stop crime unless there present when a crime is committed and they may intervene and that's no guarantee. They come to the sense after the damage is done.

At the beginning of news releases had said appeared to be a teenager.But why are we so polite and calling the perpetrators of these crimes shooters when in fact they are murderers?
