Maybe if therapy appointments weren't $50-$100 a session, more intervention could be done. Not saying I'm not blaming the perpetrator because I am, they are a monster for what they did idc what you have to say about it. At the same time though people keep whining about there needing more mental health intervention, okay so let's take the actions to DO that? I have private insurance and therapy sessions for just an hour is $50. That adds up and when you have other things to pay for sometimes counseling isn't priority even tho it should be. I can only imagine the struggle for people on non-private health insurance with it being insanely higher. "There's free counseling services at college/school campuses" You're right, and I take advantage of those services, but what about people not currently enrolled? Then what? "There's free mental health services some jobs offer" What if you're disabled and can't work at those particular jobs, or lack the requirements to get it? There's just so much into play here. I know the controversy on the idea of free healthcare can get heated, but I think we can all settle on at least making mental health services free, or greatly reduced and accessible to those less likely to be able to receive it.
* I'd also like to note, not every perpetrator of these heinous events are necessarily mentally ill, have history of abuse/trauma, ect. So, mental health services might not even be effective for those types of people.
Do I think it could have helped in this particular case? Yes. The shooter had severe suicidal ideation going on, knowing they were LGBTQ in a potentially non-accepting environment just worsened it. Maybe they were bullied for their identity, had it suppressed, anything. However not only planning to take their life, but bringing innocent children with them is unacceptable by all means. I think they got what they deserve, but in this specific case I think intensive mental health intervention could have prevented such an atrocity.

When will we address that mental health needs to be a priority in this country? Insurance doesn't hardly cover any expenses realated to mental health therapy. We have our priorities backwards as a society and these poor children are paying the price. We also need to make it more difficult to obtain these types of guns. And why didn't the parents connect the dots? They should be held responsible. They knew their daughter was purchasing weapons. It's so sad and frustrating. Unfortunately though, this is another long winded comment on YouTube that will be lost in a sea of other comments, and sadly we won't be any closer to avoiding these types of awful tragedies anytime soon thanks to greedy politicians.

If the person was so mentally ill that they would kill innocent people, then they should have been locked up and under supervision. The access to guns had nothing to do with it. The person's mental condition is the concern that should be addressed, not their tool of choice.

My 26 year old sister and even my half sister of 21 both seem a little more on the side of potentially dangerous, but I don't have any option of doing something to ensure the safety of myself or anyone else.
The 26 year old has mentioned time and time again (even recently) that shes suicidal. Shes already had domestic violence on her record and she gets up in your face or tries to do stuff if you don't agree with her. The last thing that happened was her telling my mom that "you just need to train men" for some dispute over something to do with men.
This is obviously a horribly unhealthy mindset that scares me. But I signed a 1 year lease with my family and even though shes not on the lease, her boyfriend is, and there would be no way of getting her out.
Unless there is a way to that I'm not aware of.
