I'm a teacher and I am thankful I live in a country where I know I and my students will never experience this kind of tragedy.

What would a background check have accomplished in this incident? The shooter had no prior criminal offences. The shooter was a full-fledged adult (28 years old) and lived in a home with the biological parents (living together, not divorced), who were people of faith, and the shooter was seeing a mental health professional who diagnosed the shooter with "an emotional issue." Thus, what would a background check have revealed?
I do not mean to imply that background checks serve no purpose – in most cases I believe they would be extremely helpful in identifying potential problems before they become problematic. That being said, with the details we know so far, there is very little that a background check would reveal of this shooter.

It amazes me how we have billions to spend on a war we didn't ask for but we can't spend half of that on school safety to ensure schools in this country are safe and I am pretty sure it wouldn't cost billions. Then we have to keep hearing about these school shootings with no solutions to the problems year after year. I get the government doesn't give a damn about it's citizens or the children in this country but damn my tax payer dollars should go to something like preventing this type of stuff vs a war no one cares about or didn't ask for. I live in a city where in the 90s there was so much school violence that all public schools put in safety measures to stop it and for the most part it worked why aren't safety measures put in each school in this country if they were we wouldn't keep hearing about all these school shootings. I am a mother and my heart goes out to the families who have lost their loved ones but I am also a tax payer who works 2 jobs and I am sick to death of my taxes being taken away only to be spent on things that are irrelevant to this country while the issues surrounding this country never gets resolved that our tax money should be able to fix.

My gut said to be on the other side of the store than where he was at. I located the exits in the back and then decided to quickly pay for my items and get the help out of dodge. I was in another store and there were 2 shady characters with backpacks–I got out of that store real quick too. Hyper, hyper aware of my surroundings. This is how I am living my life now.

Honestly I’m in California, I believe in equality and freedom for all. Including feelings views etc… but the over glorifying of peoples feelings and views is almost weaponizing all of this. As someone who went through all the drills and has been on lock down at school all through childhood up until I graduated it was terrifying and now working in a elementary school where I witnessed the first drill looking at the terrified faces of those babies broke me. And now watching this video of those children holding hands terrified just breaks me 😭

And the narrative that is being pushed and the misleading and even false statements made on the national media is not helping, we need to have a conversation based on facts and not hyperbole. The fact that this was a probable hate crime will be brushed over and the masses will never have the opportunity to make an informed opinion on the subject.

This seems like a targeted attack against Christians by another minority group based on the information I read so far online. Everything about this event is so specific. What makes this even worse is, this person was known to have a mental disability and was actively receiving help for this. This person should have been flagged for the disability alone. Schools in general require some active security to prevent this. one or two armed guards or dedicated officers on site might have made a difference. It seems mental health should be considered when applying for a firearm in not just the US, but also Canada to flag out high risk citizens, like this person.
