If they win, the government is just going to give the money back anyway. There is no other railroad in the region than Norfolk Southern. Only they have track rights. In other words, they have a natural monopoly in the region. Lawsuits could easily drive them into bankruptcy. How is this not a bailout waiting to happen?

American archaic infrastructure. Maybe America should blame the Chinese for being the world's leaders in infrastructure and fast speed rail. Last year there was radioactive water leaks in Minnesota and now Philadelphia. Where is Biden's infrastructure funding? Surely DeSantis hasn't used the infrastructure funds to send migrants from another state to another state like he did with the Covid funding.

Seems as if the DOJ is wasting money on this one. As it was made clear that Norfolk Southern had already been in action. Someone needs to go back to school on this one, seems as if they can't calculate how much material was carried. There were something like 10 cars with the materials contained, and an average tank car holds at the most 30K gallons. Now do the math, it suddenly is 300,000 gallons carried. Now Remember the EPA wanted them to do a Burn off, so now how much was burned. So now you are talking most likely a majority, say 60-90% was burned off. So now the magic math seems to have made a major increase in material by a factor of 10.
Why did this need to be brought up by DOJ 1st? What is the state/ town doing to hold the company accountable?

Maybe the government needs to keep their noses out other folks business. This is exactly why the workers were striking. Executives getting paid bonuses while the working man takes the shaft. Maybe if they left it to the workers and company to settle the dispute then maybe just maybe this wouldn't be happening. Big brother has to over reach and to me their just as much to blame.

Seems the doj is stepping up doing there job sueing Norfolk, if they win then Norfolk can then try and sue railroad if neglect is suspected there and win if can be proven.
They better be giving all that money they stand to win to the bystanders and victims affected by this man-made disaster.
