Ellis didn't bowl as good a 4th over and when Jurel took him for 6 with a misfire on the legs, Ellis glanced apologetically at Shikhar knowing fully well that his captain was banking on him & he had messed up the plan.. but Shikhar just gave him that reassuring look which almost said,'I know you're trying your best, no worries.. aall izzz well!'.. it is a style that never-won-a-thing captains had almost put out of fashion, and did a whole lot of get-intense-get-firedUp drama.. but it's great to see Hardik almost bring a personal style, which quite easily could rewrite how captains end up giving confidence to their players & get different players to outperform.. Shikhar's probably become the 1st visible captain to pick it up & won't be surprised if Punjab start stitching wins where they have different MOMs every other game.. i thought GT could create history by winning this IPL undefeated, but Shikhar might just give Hardik a run for his money, come the day Punjab face GT.. Out of nowhere, Punjab could break into the top 4.. yes, Shikhar may not have the tactical genius of Hardik, but this style might just inspire his side to turn the tide..
The 2nd thing is the tale of the other captain.. Sanju Samson.. he needs to get back on the saddle very quickly.. the fact that he went in to bowl 1st with 5 bowlers smacks of complacency and inadequate preparation.. that was followed by the Ashwin opening call & that seems to suggest he has taken victory for RR as a foregone conclusion.. this great game makes sure nobody takes it for granted – watching today's game almost gives you an insight on where Samson's not been able to grab his international chances & dedicated himself to getting big runs, finishing matches etc needed to cement his place in the Indian side.. you could have all the talent in the world, but you still have to go in the middle and do the job.. besides these 2, there were many other mistakes Samson made this game and while he may have thought he couldn't mess it up even if he wanted to, he did get out at 42, sent Hetmeyer way too late, messed up critical overs persisting with Padikkal at #4.. Samson & RR seem to be losing their way, there is no room for overconfidence here..
