Regarding the husband, it seems men have a more difficult time admitting they are being physically, verbally and emotionally abused, they feel shame. I had a friend who stayed the same type of abusive relationship for twenty some years, finally found the strength to leave her, it was a very sad story. When he asked for a divorce, she wouldn't grant it. He had found someone whom he loved dearly and who also loved him. He wrote to the wife whom he was separated from for 11 years. She, knowing how happy he was, "summoned" to come home and "try again for the children's sake". ( the children where 20 and 28) it had nothing to do with the children. Even the children warned their father. He went back to the wife. Lost the woman he was to marry. She, feeling completely betrayed, thought he would never be FREE of the wife. She could not, would not play or watch sadistic games being played.
