Pediatricians sounding alarm on infants sharing beds with parents after spike in cases

Cook Children’s Hospital reported that 30 babies in just 15 months likely died during unsafe sleeping conditions, which often involves sharing a bed with a parent or caregiver and suffocating in the bedding or pillows. NBC News’ Tom Costello has more details on what advice pediatricians are giving parents.

  1. Take your pick. Lightening a financial burden. Covid brain fog. Worrying about your social media, and not about the little person next to you. Conscious or subconscious, mentally you're not fit to parent.

  2. My cousin and niece are very lucky! My niece has been co-sleeping with either her nanny or my cousin ever since birth. The nannies that have taken care of her in the past all think that co-sleeping is totally fine. Sometimes my niece would sleep with my cousin in her bed that was really high, with two duvets (my cousin is really afraid of the cold), and no bed rails. I have told her that co-sleeping isn’t safe, especially with such heavy duvets, and that she should put the crib next to her bed and have her daughter sleep there, but she didn’t listen… My niece is 20 months old now and still sleeps in the same bed with my cousin (at least her bed is a lot lower now). Thankfully nothing bad has happened to my niece due to co-sleeping (other than falling off her current bed a couple of times), and hopefully it stays that way!

  3. wow, i hate to even say this but i did it with my baby, i feel so bad! i sleep like im awake though so if my boyfriend even moves his arm when we sleep(baby now 2 in his own big boy bed) i will wake, either of them breathe weird im up, it’s a blessing an curse

  4. African American kids are dying more than the white kids.thats not fair.thats racist.or is it being a responsible parent? No it's the race card.

  5. Name the poor access

  6. How about we report on babies having reactions to cows milk causes the same outcome…

  7. I co slept with both my boys; now ages 11 and 9, and it worked wonderfully for our family. I will say that my husband and I are both on the trim side and light sleepers. It might not be the best for all families, but it does work for some.

  8. this video is literally expressing the consequences and tragedies of those who don’t practice safe sleep and so many people in the comments are bragging that they did it without their babies dying. Just because yours survived so far or made it to childhood / adulthood doesn’t mean what you’re doing is good because “it works for us!”. So many babies have died and so many parents live with the trauma of accidentally killing them, this is not the time or place to let everyone know how well your baby sleeps in your bed

  9. They call this SIDS but now they know the real reason for it…so not a Syndrome.

  10. it does happen. my husband’s late mother co-sleep with his little brother and crushed him. she was an alcoholic, but still, why take any amount of risk when it comes to our children’s safety? i guess to each their own. i understand some infants and babies, even toddlers and young children are terrible sleepers but there are safer options such as a floor bed etc.

  11. Omg rip Charlie 🙏🏽 My husband made the decision not to sleep or lay with our newborn because he knows that he can fall asleep easily and deeply.

  12. Both of my children are alive and well, and they both slept with me and still do at 4 and 7. They are "moses" beds that are small and made for the bed. They have a night light and you can't roll over them and they can't fall out if you put it in the middle of the bed. But seriously people have been having children since creation, co-sleeping isn't new, not saying that deaths can't happen

  13. Co-sleeping is so common in many cultures across the world. I swear…this annoys me so much. I think it depends on the parents/child. If your a heavy sleeper and move a lot..maybe not a good idea but not every person is like that. Don’t guilt parents who co-sleep.😑

  14. What happened to COMMON SENSE?!!! 😫 when you’re sound asleep, you can crush your baby. I would rather sleep on the floor, if there are poor sleeping arrangements, as long as baby is safe, protected and comfy.

  15. My son wouldn't sleep in his crib for anything. He's 13 months now and still sleeps with my husband and I. I hate it but he will cry bloody murder if he's not sleeping with us. I'm glad I don't move in my sleep and I literally wake up like every few hours by instinct to check on him but he's always been fine. Currently looking for a kid bed frame for him, already got the mattress from a gift.

  16. These millennials aren't the smartest 🤫

  17. Next breastfeeding will be dangerous.

  18. People in other countries co-sleep. Did they compare any data between those countries & USA

  19. Absurd. In many countries we sleep together without issues. Baby is placed on own small futon close to parents' futon. Zero issues. This is strictly cultural. The sick way is to place a baby or infant in a cage in its own dark separate room and leave it there to scream in terror all night! No wonder Americans are so violent and messed up. Starts early.

  20. You figure that the Dr. Would know better. He, himself, said it happens way to often.

  21. Bro just let them sleep in their crib

  22. Of course you’ll pull the race card..
