How some can file federal taxes for free



Around 70% of U.S. taxpayers are eligible for a federal tax prep service called IRS Free File. NBC’s Tom Costello took a look at how the program works ahead of tax day.

  1. We did ours free at TurboTax. I guess because w have to pay the IRS as we withdrawn some funds without taxes withholding

  2. I've never paid to have my taxes done.

  3. I used this in 2019 and never got my tax return and then covid hit and never got to talk to a live person

  4. The IRS knows how much you owe for the average person. There should be no the average person needs to do their taxes in this manner. They tell us to come up with the magic number that they know or get fined / go to jail.

  5. Credit karma used to be free but now they are u fee TurboTax… so stupid

  6. Go to IRS and your state revenue websites. Download and print out the forms. Fill them out. Mail them in.
