People… as a republican leaning mortgage loan officer, I can tell you this is extremely misleading. They have simply made it so people with less than excellent credit are not getting hammered as hard on their terms on conforming loans. Those with good credit are not being punished or paying more, it’s just people with lower credit are not having to pay as much as before (there was no point in going conforming before compared to FHA). Too many of these articles & broadcasts are comparing apples to oranges to get people fired up. This is more about a housing affordability push and Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac increasing competition and trying to gain market share against FHA originations than it is socialism. Some of the comments here are so inaccurate it’s mind blowing.
