Thatβs a good size black bear! If that had been a Grizzly it might have gone way different. My sister lives in East TN and they are all over the place. Crazy

My guess is that it was locked, and he climbed ontop of it and the plastic lids bent in, letting him in, but then flexed back to shape and he didnt have enough muscle to hit upwards to escape. Look at the lid on the right and you'll see that it's crumpled in and has definitely been bent out of shape.
Either that or it was locked with him in it at night, but I doubt that's the case because bears wouldn't be laying down to sleep at that time. They're more active when its night/early morning and sleep during the day mostly, and the guy probably locked it after work.
He was so happy you let him out! He wanted to hang out, but you ran away and scared him. Next time.
