  5. I hate getting older. God is summoning more of his angels to sing in the heavenly choir

  6. RIP Gorden – his music will live on forever

  7. A true Canadian icon. You will be missed by loving hearts.

  8. A Yank writes: Surely Gordie belongs mentioned with the Greatest of the Great of that greatest of all musical periods; the 1960s and 1970s. Right up there with the Beatles, CCR, and Stones etc, etc. Thank YOU Gordon Lightfoot for all the world's pain you temporarily freed us from with your incredibly gifted music. Canadians have REAL reason to be exceptionally proud of this exceptional human being….

  9. Sad news feel the same as when I heard about john denver s death greetings from ireland,

  10. One of the greatest singer-songwriters of the 20th century. This man could move the soul to places both beautiful and sad. A true musical genius. Hope to see you in heaven some day, Brother.

  11. RIP Mister Rock of Ages !

  12. Been a fan since my friend John Condon Introduced me to his music in the late 60s. My daughter got me his last Vynil record for Christmas 2022 Gordon Lightfoot 'solo' recorded in 2020. Rest in Peace my musical friend.

  13. Loved his music since my older sister put it on the turntable.

On May Day 2023 you went away, today we've all been crying all day!
    .
Thanks for the pictures you painted in your writing.

We'll be singing them in your memory for Eternity.

You are, our National Poet and so much more than that.

You gave us Canadian identity with passion and integrity.

The Edmund Fitzgerald, and so many more.

Bless your heart and Soul, Gordon, you our Troubadour from The Great White North!

His music has been the soundtrack of my life for over 50 years.

Now I'm sitting here in tears, in Toronto, the morning after the day He passed!

  14. This is a sweet tribute to an awesome singer/ songwriter! Thank you!

  15. To see him on the street I would not have recognized him, untill he spoke, that voice never failed him.

  16. Forever in our hearts, and eternally Canadian. 😒

  17. R.I.P. BROTHER…

    sundown is here…,

  18. Bye bye, Gordy.. May you and the Edmund Fitzgerald sail the great lakes together..

  19. We lost a legend and one of the world’s greatest songwriters

  20. I'm Canadian and he was born in Orillia, Ontario about an hour and a half north of Toronto. His songs are like a story, history here in Canada. He will be missed by many of his fans who bought millions of his records. His music lives always on our speakers.

  21. RIP Gord's Gold – your Music will live-on forever. Your songs have touched-us-all.

  22. Gordon had a music style like no other — The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald is my favorite — I cannot imagine anyone else singing this song so well.

  23. Could NBC possibly dwell on the negative even more? The Los Angeles mention is wrong twice. It was Ian Tyson and his wife Sylvia Fricker who helped Lightfoot make the transition to the US market successfully and not the Lightfoot's mere presence in that key music industry city. Lightfoot's reason for being in LA in the early 1960s was to attend music college (and he met his first wife there too) but he became well known in Canada first.

  24. RIP Gordon…..I will cary on….Thank You

  25. Sadly it's drug and alcohol abuse that catches up with people later in life.

  26. I wish treasures like him would last to 100. He will be missed. Rest in God's embrace, Gordon.

  27. His music reached down to San Diego to a refuge family from Vietnam. And when I think of singer-songwriters, I can't help but think of his song, "If You Could Read My Mind". What a master painter in terms of writing. Thank you, Mr. Lightfoot, for creating beautiful works as you have that move the human spirit. "Beautiful" is a song for which I can only imagine what the love of my life – if I were to ever be lucky enough to have – would feel like.

  28. Barrie Ontario Canada…get it right.

  29. Born in Orilla, Ontario Canada *

  30. I'll miss him forever. He's THE reason I became a singer. RIP, GL! …see you on the other side…..

  31. The Canadian Troubadour…….rest in peace.

  32. Thank God for blessing the world with this talented man and his wonderful music! I discovered Lightfoot by first hearing Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald, but grew to love many of his songs such as Day Before Yesterday, High And Dry, Cherokee Bend, Biscuit City, and Drink Yer Glasses Empty.

I’m not sure what my life would be like had I never discovered Mr. Lightfoot.

  33. All the greats are passing away. RIP Gordon Lightfoot. 😒

  34. I was an American teenager when he became a favorite for me whether it was ballad for a love unrequited boy with If You Could Read My Mind, too a mysterious legendary sinking in Edmund Fitzgerald, it is all great and memorable, rest in peace.

  35. Thanks for the best, most romantic music ever. You will be missed. RIP Gordon.

  36. The album "If You Could Read My Mind" was the first music I could identify with an artist. My Dad played it in the house since I was a toddler. He is the epitome of singer-songwriter. The trifecta of songwriter, singer and musician. His catalog speaks for itself. As well as Bob Dylan's being very upfront that he himself was inspired by Gordon all his life.

  37. I always loved his 'Your Loves Return'…….

  38. My dad hipped me to Gordon without knowing he did when I was about 5 or 6 yrs old.He has since past away.I'm 61 thanks dad.

  39. Do you folks have a favourite song? I think mine is Christian Island. Rest in peace sir.

  40. I could listen to him All Day Long!
A magnificent voice not so much appreciated by our younger generation. Gave my nephew 3 graduation tickets last summer to see this legend. Hope he understood its Value.

  41. Thank you for your music Mr. Lightfoot. It brightened my life and I'm sure the lives of millions of people over your career. Rest in peace, you will be missed.
