The automakers agreed to pay up to $200 million to settle a class action lawsuit covering roughly 8 million vehicles. The suit claims Hyundai and Kia failed to equip certain 2011 to 2022 models with adequate anti-theft technology. NBC News’ Maggie Vespa has details.

2011-2022 and they didn't have any anti-theft chipped keys??? A 1998 Buick comes with a chipped key, and a new Kia doesn't??? That's pretty sad. Hate to see what else they cheesed out on. Surprised they gave them power windows. 😂
What about putting the thieves in jail
cars so dangerous even Hyundai's own professional drivers like Craig Breen lost control and died. not to mentioned almost killed Tiger Woods. I wonder how much he was paid in his settlement.
This was the dumbest, laziest lawsuit. The reason these cars are getting stolen isn't because the manufacturer didn't put in enough antitheft measures. They get stolen because prosecutors in the same states complaining have stopped prosecuting "petty" crimes, so car thiefs are left on the streets and gangs/youth have become emboldened.

So, the solution to car thefts is to punish the auto manufactures instead of just keeping the criminals in jail. Yep, that makes perfect sense and isn't insane at all

I have lived near Tokyo for 30 years and cannot remember so many theft stories. However, I was worried about my Japanese car after hearing this news,
because in Korea, Korean cars are hundreds of times better than Japanese cars.
Or was Japan at fault in this incident as well? As usual, I am very anxious.
That woman's opinion had nothing but heresay to add and people to rile up. No payments have been made. Nobody has seen how anything will play out, but you include that she feels she won't get her money because the "color of her skin… maybe the area she lives in… maybe her income, she just doesn't believe she'll get it?" The two Korean brands don't carry high technology as Japanese brands, and they are less reliable but more affordable.
This could have been the easiest recall ever. Rather than do a quick software update , they decided to do nothing and get sued instead.
