A giant tree that towered over Sierra Leone’s capital for centuries and symbolized freedom to its residents came down during a heavy rainstorm. Standing over 200 feet tall and nearly 50 feet wide, the roughly 400-year-old “Cotton Tree” has been Sierra Leone’s national symbol for decades.

I spent five years in freetown, beautiful city, beautiful and kind hearted people. Lot's of people claimed the tree was an ancient Witchcraft Coven.

You can make beautiful things from wood. It will be still a symbol of freedom. You can preserve the whole stump and put it in a museum with photos of tree, or you can make an installation from wood or make a sculpture. Nothing is lost till you burn it to ash.
