I fill that high rise buildings need to be maintenance every 5yrs because of the wear and tear from tenants..
Hoping all the tenants and their pets got out safely.
Very foolish to allow the City of Davenport to demolish the entire building, and very suspect that they are pushing to do it so fast. That section of wall that collapsed was over the area where all of the external gutters drained. Almost certainly the mortar in the foundation was washed out in that area over the years – this could have been avoided with simple repointing, sealing, and water diversion. Also, the foundations under the remaining walls would not have been inundated with water, not being in this runoff area, meaning the foundation damage is likely contained to the area of failure and the immediate proximity. The majority of this building, representing hundreds of millions of dollars in value, could be repaired, reinforced beyond any doubt, and put back into service for less than the cost of ripping it down.

This is awful. Deff some structural neglect in the construction of this complex. Modern buildings shouldn't collapse like this. Especially in Iowa which isn't earthquake prone
