The problem with the US is by having a 2-party system we are systematically mislead and politicians have become professional liars that play us all. There were some steps taken to help clean up dirty $ in politics, but the Supreme Court threw it out and so many politicians like this can take any kind of unreported donations now. Add to that people voting on party lines, religious or extreme views (platform issues like abortion), and logic doesn't apply. It will get worse before it gets better, since we effectively have two bad kids yelling and pointing at each other saying "you did it", "no you did it", "I'm rubber and you're glue – your insults bounce off and stick to you!". That's right – we've reached a level of complete incompetence. Only the very worst and inept like Santos are being caught.
