  1. We live and work in a system where the surest way to make profits is to walk the boundaries of regulations. While crossing those boundaries is a gamble, the potential reward is often too tempting for stakeholders and even for operatives hoping for bonuses.

  2. The city of Davenport and the owner of this apartment need to be responsible for this collapse.

  3. As a local seeing my city on national news is mind-boggling.

  4. At the very least, one would think that the man who made the 911 call on the previous day might've knocked on doors and gathered others in an attempt to inform the tenants on that side of the building to get out, even though it was not his professional responsibility. He's not to blame by any means, yet it's a sad state of affairs, and the fire department ought to be held accountable on some level, when in fact, they had enough information to inspect and evacuate the building 24 hours ahead of the collapse. Dumb.

  5. Owner is in big trouble

  6. Gotta large crack outside my apt door, that moves through my apartment. Inside they patched it over, but the hallway is very obvious. We called the county and they sent someone out who said with a shrug, it's just the building settling. I'm disabled and poor. I can't move. I'm on 52 waiting lists for housing, with some going back more than 2 years. The neglect of folks like me who worked hard and have fallen is shocking. Our lives meen very little to those who are able bodied or have Mom, and Dads, or Grandparents money to keep them safe. I know when I'm being stared at like I'm some walking disease. The building inspectors seem like their on the take from the wealthy scum lords who own these run down places. Never let yourself fall so far as you're forced into subsidized housing. Although I tried to avoid it myself, but things just come apart suddenly sometimes. It's been a learning experience, and no matter what you believe, no one wants this type of life. It's not laziness; It's a lack of opportunity combined with bad luck. I've documented my concerns and backed them with pictures I've sent my family, just in case they need to sue the county and owner one day. That's all I can do. I'm too sick to live in a car.

  7. No building collapses like that unless it was intentionally brought down. People believe whatever they’re told and have no idea of the laws of physics and the practice of structural engineering.

  8. The families of the victims are heartbroken, but they should sue left and right and I am sure they will.

  9. Let me guess, NO BODY listened to 911 call, cidnt check,

  10. Horrifying, condolences to the victims. 🌹

  11. was this a trump property? seems like it

  12. Greedy landlords caused this . . . bet they don't live in Iowa and never have.

  13. Hey, why didn't NBC mention that not 12 hours after the initial collapse, the city deemed it a hazard and attempted to immediately demolish it? With 7 people still unaccounted for inside the partially collapsed building?
Or how the mayor is connected to the building and has a business relationship with the owner and insisted that the building come down as soon as possible?
Or how a woman was LITERALLY HANGING OUT THE WINDOW SCREAMING FOR HELP as the first responders refused to go in and the demolition crew were preparing to rip the building down?

  14. The city of Davenport is finally being exposed as the slumlord haven it is. This building isn't the only one in Davenport that should have been condemned and demolished long ago. I hope that no one else has to go through this tragedy because Davenport doesn't care about the citizens' safety.

  15. We’ve had years of republicans pushing deregulation in the state. This is what happens when you fail to regulate.

  16. From use of communication technology including satellites I state with absolute certainty that former US President Donald Trump is serving a jail sentence at a prison complex located in California where he is forced to remain at all times with the exception of official leave time authorised by the prison.

  17. i’ve heard rumors the building collapsed because it was made in china? any truth to this?

  18. The LLC owner will file for bankruptcy. Lability insurance will pay to the max of the policy. City may kick in a little. Then that will be divided among those damaged. section 8 housing at its best.

  19. Can you believe that? The owner will get a $300 fine for this……total. I just warned the parking garage at Ascension St. John's hospital here in Tulsa that there are cracks in the concrete everywhere with 3 to 4 inch holes all over t the garage.

  20. I’m sure as the news anchors breath there’s a person stuck under apartment bricks.

  21. Remember they wanted to tear down the building the next day when there were live people in it… coverup at it’s finest!

  22. And still no republican governor of Iowa. You can bet she doesn’t vote for the working people….. shame on Kim Reynolds

  23. This is heartbreaking for the lived ones of the missing but the primary concern must be the safety of the people working on the collapse.

  24. The google street view of that building has similar temporary shoring. This sounds like an ongoing problem.

  25. 🙏🙏🙏         Please bow your head and say this prayer now 🙏

"Carry our prayers up to Gods throne, that
the mercy of the Lord may quickly come
and lay hold of the beast,
                     the serpent of old, Satan
                    and his demons, casting him
in chains into the abyss, so that
he can no longer seduce the nations.
                   Thank you for everything
                     CREATOR OF THE UNIVERSE,
                          LORD GOD. Amen." 🙏🙏🙏

If you can't look and remember the words, just read and pray them while you have your head bowed and your hands in front of your face 🙏☺

  26. American archaic infrastructure. Maybe America should blame the Chinese for being the world's leaders in infrastructure and fast speed rail. Maybe America should blame the Japanese for having bullet trains way back in 1964 when The Beatles released their first record album. America, 59 years behind the rest of the world. Last year there was radioactive water leaks in Minnesota and now Philadelphia and Louisiana. Where is Biden's infrastructure funding? Surely DeSantis hasn't used the infrastructure funds to send migrants from another state to another state like he did with the Covid funding.

  27. Just like the buildings collapsing in Florida and Connecticut, or the power grid failing twice during freezing winter in Texas, not to mention the train derailment with toxic waste in Ohio, republicans pocket all the taxpayer money instead of maintaining infrastructural integrity, and the lemmings keep voting red to "own the libs".

  28. There was a 911 call but they were like "meh". 🤦🏼

  29. Considering there is public record stating the building was unsafe and it was recommended to evacuate tenants as far as I've seen dated back to 2021. There were fines set in place to occur if not vacated yet the owner or city officials did not intervene to ensure the safety of the tenants. There's going to be lots of explaining to do for covering this up.
