In order to balance a budget, you have to use cautious spending and progressive revenue raising. Unfortunately, Republicans have been very unwise in both.
Giving handouts to people who don't need it (the wealthy) with no strings attached.
Increasing military spending beyond needs. Starving education and wages.
Look at history. Every Republican administration has ended in an economic down turn. Every Democratic administration has ended in growth and reduced debt.

We need even higher interest rates for a period of time, causing a managed DEFLATION of prices, to improve everyone's purchasing power. We've had a doubling/tripling of prices over the past 15 years, we need that reversed in 5-10 years.
