At some HCA hospitals, staff are pressed to get patients into hospice with the goal of improving hospital performance metrics, according to six nurses and 27 doctors. NBC News’ Cynthia McFadden shares one patient’s story where doctors urged her mother to transfer her to end-of-life care but the patient ended up recovering.

NBC has got it all wrong. HCA hospitals deny deny deny all care, but at the end of life, APPROVE hospice care! It's healthcare capitalism. Are you a commie??
A hospital ceo should get a flat salary, not incentivized based on metrics like this. And that salary shouldn't be 30+ million! No way!! The man has no clue how any of the people under him do things. He needs to spend 3 months in every job that isn't direct patient care…cleaning floors, toilets, doing laundry, doing admissions, trying to collect bills, resolve billing issues with insurers, etc. The guy has no clue.
Health csre is so backwards these days. When i worked in a nursing home i reported them to the state and they did nothing, i asked how could 4 aides and 4 nurses take care of 147 patients. They said they found no evidence of this happening i gave dates and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see the neglect, the same when i worked for a well known Dialysis Davita company the manager just cared about the score of the facility

hospice nurse here… this is the TRUTH. These for-profit hospitals are so fast to push out patients to free up beds that us hospice RNs are often the first to broach the subject of palilative or end-of-life care for patients. FOR PROFIT HEALTHCARE IS PURE EVIL!!!

This is all true..bonuses to lots of people if few complications,so numbers are cooked and patient care is horrible. HCA is a horror,and should be investigated on so many fronts. It's the worst possible organization…corrupt , dishonest,and dangerous

It is not just HCA hospitals it is the whole medical care facilities.
My family have experienced this several times with different family members.
It is even worse when the patient is elderly.
Hope that people don't vilify hospice care because of this story. Hospice provides care and dying with dignity..
