Through public documents and family records, a Reuters examination discovered at least 100 members of the last sitting Congress had direct family ancestors who were slaveholders. NBC News’ Harry Smith spoke with two representatives about their own family histories.

and if you REALLY look into history you'll find that for the most part blacks were enslaving and selling other blacks far before the whites ever got into the trade. even the chinese were capturing people and selling them off. slavery is far from a 'whites only' profession.
Who cares? Why should we pay for what some ancestor did? Most backwards (literally) idea ever.
Sounds like the African Americans want to keep the masters in power.
Every living president except trump?
So what about Obama??
Parts of the article were interesting but they were also clearly trying to hint that some people are bad today because of things that happened before they were born, especially if they didn't pick up a phone call. This is ridiculous. Some of these 'direct ancestors' were SEVEN OR EIGHT GENERATIONS BACK. I hope those at Reuters trying to insinuate something against others can prove that every single one of their ancestors for the last eight generations, has been squeaky clean.
I thought that the sins of our fathers thing was something we got rid of long ago, but I guess it makes for great clickbait. I thought we judged people for their actions and words.
All living American Presidents except trump owns slaves. That means Obama too?!
So what? that was 150 years ago…The descendents of those slaves stole my car last week…
So what?
And I imagine most of them think to themselves, "Ah, the good old days…"
"YOU A VICTIM"
Some of the comments in here are the best example of america's failing education system. Erroneous misinformation and deflecting passing off as historical truth. Dudes like cooper need to learn to read a book and here's another hint books from the actual time period instead of getting his historical facts from internet memes and youtube videos.
What is the point of videos like this? Why are you perpetuating this victim like mentality? Stuff like this is why the black community has been going downhill so fast the past 10 years. Who do you think sold the entire world the African slaves? THE OTHER AFRICANS WHO ENSLAVED THEM. All people were pretty horrible hundreds of years ago. Good thing we all moved on and got better right? So why say ignorant disgusting things like "aT LeAst 100 MEmBErS of last CoNgResS were DeSCenDents of SLAVERHOLDERS" Its just tokenized click bait. All that does is make young impressionable black people see themselves as victims and to carry a chip on their shoulder. That's like me getting upset about the potato famine because im Irish. It was a hundred years ago and everyone involved is dead. We changed and got better. Im all for remembering mistakes so we don't repeat them but that's not at all what any of this modern movement trash has been trying to achieve.
Interesting piece. Slavery was common back in the day, among many cultures depending on the era we're referring to. In the interest of being transparent, the slave trade was a thriving enterprise in Africa prior to Europeans' arrival. Many blacks and tribal members owned slaves in the U.S. as well. In closing, let's remember that the U.S. didn't create chattel slavery…It abolished it. By means of warfare. Cheers to us all. Regardless of what bloodline we descend from, which is something that we have no control over.
The uneducated will tell you the way to combat racism is to NOT talk about it.
1:29 So Joe Biden's ancestors owned slaves?🤔
yep you got it
So, big deal. Let's make issues out of things that happened in history as if it was the same laws as today. It was a different time so let it go.
Democrats for democracy
What's the purpose of this report? Many are descendants of slave holders. How many are in the House and Senate now and are involved with the planning and execution of the attempted coup? Did their ancestry provide wealth and power to their descendants giving them unfair political advantage and predetermined philosophies of government? Do these legislators maintain prejudiced ideas that influences their power over our political system today? How many sitting in government maintain association to white supremacy? That would be news.
"every living American president except Donald Trump descends from slaveholders"
the dems were and remain the party of slavery
They might not reply because they’re busy. Do you respond to every communication?
Locate slave owner family members that are rich today and penalize them for reparation!
And millions are descendents of Genghis Khan
