Former NFL quarterback’s drowning death raises alarm about rip current danger



Former NFL quarterback Ryan Mallet got caught in dangerous ocean conditions and drowned. Mallet is one of at least nine people to drown on the Florida panhandle this month. NBC News’ Stephanie Gosk has more details on the warnings about rip currents.

  1. Sounds like some lifeguards need some training… that many deaths is crazy, someone not paying attention. You need to get there before they drown not while they are drowning…

  2. I've never understood why life jackets aren't a thing in the ocean. Like, we have to wear them when we're safe in a boat on a lake but we don't wear them when we're swimming in the ocean with rip currents, yellow, and red flags. I don't get it

  3. I CALL DIBS ON HIS FOOTBALL CLEATS! I bet they smell goooood 🤤

  4. Even some lifeguards have drowned in riptide.

  5. Don't know how to swim with a rip tide stay out of the water.

  6. Yet another reason to avoid visiting Florida.
