It hates the colors.
They use fish oil mixed in varnish and paint! Smells fish but nothing but wood have to worry about ingesting paint and varnish! There are also environmental friendly products like beeswax which is edible! Sweet too!
Just take your hands a splash enough water his way! Otters are also afraid of Dogs! Maybe bark at them or adopt a dog! Distract enough to get your board back! Cayenne pepper with ammonia mixed spray also works! Check local laws on use though so some nut won't be able to complain! Maybe tell them they can replace your surfboard!
