They need seat belts in the john, and I'm not kidding, feeling weightless just luckily getting my business done, and I'm suddenly floating with my head touching ceiling, then wham! 2011 before being the last plane to land, and then they closed Miami. Lightning was striking the runway next to the plane, a wild trip! Might have been 2010.

only reasons to take seatbelt off during flight is to get something out of the overhead bins or the bathroom. don't forget to put it back on when you sit back down. sometimes times the pilots know they are heading into a turbulent area and can warn you but not always as in the case of clear air turbulence.

I never thought to take off my seatbelt unless going to the bathroom. Not like you can really move around in that seat anyways, may as well keep it on.

Remember, you have a 100x higher chance of getting injured on the ride to the airport than getting injured during a flight.

I was on that same plane (N249NV) that same day, and I got off at Asheville from Boston right before it was assigned to Florida. The flight I was on had moderate turbulence near Mount Mitchell as we were approaching Asheville. The crew was friendly, and I feel bad for them if they were on that flight.
