‘We were utterly dominant’: Stokes buoyed despite result | Men’s Ashes 2023

With England remaining 2-1 down with only one Test to play, and having conceded the Ashes to Australia for a fourth successive series, England captain Ben Stokes says his side were “pretty much perfect” in Manchester and admitted the rain-induced draw was a “tough pill to swallow”

  1. Underneath all the phony spin and motivational poster quotes is really just bad sportsmanship by the English cricket team. They played out of their skin, at home, won every toss and still couldnt get the urn back.. but its not about that.. its sbout their higher calling… give it a rest.

  2. Stokes not declaring soon after reaching Australian target was his downfall. They knew they weren’t going to get much bowling done on days 4 and 5. Incompetent captaincy not knowing the dynamics the weather would play. He should of been all in to believing they could of bowled Australia out cheaply and reach the target on day 3 or 4. Good on you Ben you were Australia’s best performer. I hope you keep up with your incompetent captaining😂😂

  3. The weather was at fault, they still think they played the better cricket, yet here they are 2-1 down. Cry me a river, England were out played tactically; 4 from 4 tosses, the better of all the conditions apart form the last match, the first test they declared too early, the last too late and played for personal gain rather than the end goal. I have no sympathy for poor decisions and will take the draw to get out of jail and to retain the Ashes. Stop with all the stupid questions of a spare day, changing the rules and please, stop with the whiny excuses.

  4. England batted way too long … to show off their aggressive and entertaining batting 🙄 … instead of an aggressive declaration and a chance of winning the game !! Declaring with 150 lead would’ve given them plenty of overs to knock over the Aussies. Everyone knew there’d only be a half day of play tops over the weekend. Thanks Jonny and Ben for stroking your ego’s, great match drawing 99 not out, I loved watching it, knowing you should’ve been taking wickets instead 👍

  5. This is appalling… the BIGGEST English pity party we’ve ever been witnessed to…. I guess the only thing to say is… the pommy media are well versed in conducting sympathy seeking discussions…

No mention of the Aussie aging, failed opener batsman and then losing their main strike spinner… and yet, they’ve STILL done the business despite those two handicaps…

  6. Yeah we can’t win the ashes but we are double reigning world champions so we’ve always got that and next time in Australia we’re gonna be so much better get Jofra fit wood and stone in

  7. there there England ,you lost the ashes after winning the toss 4 times playing on your pitches believing in your own bazball bullshit ,Nathan Lyon out injured during 2nd test ,and now you own weather is an excuse like this is the first time a test has been ruined by rain lol ,shouldnt have been 2-0 down in the first place whinging muppets

  8. Um.. except when you weren't dominant. Australia made 320 – which is technically not a "bad" total. And Marcus and Marsh resisted you're "dominance" in the end.

  9. Look at the scoreboard! This is some serious copium from the losers. Thje arrogance of this crowd is unbelievable. They lost because of their arragance, even after winning four tosses in a row. Pathetic!

  10. After Australia lost the toss and weren't able to pile on the runs themselves in the first innings, they knew they couldn't win in what was always going to be a rain affected game, Operation "Baz-draw" was initiated. Keep the English batting for as long as possible through seemingly inept field positions with the aim of reducing the number of overs available due to the inevitable bad weather, thus preventing themselves from being bowled out twice! Genius. Well played Australia, well played.

  11. His decisions have been the reason we lost. Early declaration in the 1st. Late declaration in the 4th.
About time he was knighted !
Not too bothered about losing, as long as we enjoy it……are you serious. ?

  12. England have needed a captain as good as this for a long time. "The rewards for your work isn't what you get, it's actually what you become."

Well said! When invited to throw one of his players under the bus, he threw himself. A leadership masterclass.

P.S. Some of the commentators would do well to actually watch the video. Their responses are based on pure fiction.

  13. We gave them the Ashes !

  14. England really like feeling like they won things rather than actually winning them haha.

  15. 7:20 & 9:10
    Encompasses the entire series here🚬💀

    Zero Acknowledgement
    Zero Accountability
    Entitlement x 1000

Simply because u've tried out a new strategy, does not mean u're owed a series win for perhaps the most coveted test trophy..
The revolutionary BazBall has won 1 test in 4 matches

And yet English fans seem to be ok with this "moral victory" while bashing aussies for winning by the rules of the game🤣🤣🤣

  16. I think the Aussies out smarted the pom's by letting them bat themselves out of the game playing their 'bazball' style, when they knew days before that bad weather was on it's way. In not really trying to get the Pom's out and watching them chew up time batting a higher score than needed, the time they had left to bowl the Aussies out before the rain arrived was never going to be enough…..That's cricket smarts, ….well done boys. …Now go get em in the final game !!!!!

  17. England made many mistakes on and off the field. Australia was good enough to make them pay.

  18. How does dropping catches and throwing away wickets equate to Australia winning key moments?

  19. oh we were so hardly done by. the world is out to get us. the aussies are nasty. the rain is orrible. oh we deserve so much more. we are so special. we are english. we are such special people with special qualities. the rules should be changed so that they suit the current circumstances. we won even when we didn't win. and when they lost, it's because we won then too. when we lost the first two, that didn't count. only the third test counted. even though i was out lbw to boland and given not out. we are special. we are special.

  20. 'The greatest English test side since 05' will end up, at best, drawing a home series against Australia….

The exact place they were in 4 years ago. All hail Bazball indeed.

Can't wait for the next series in Australia. Please bring Bairstow & Broad too.

  21. Looking forward to what he has to say when it finishes 3-1😂😂

  22. Meanwhile in Ukraine 😡

  23. Ben LOSER Stokes…Aussies will win at The Oval…3-1 like we beat England in FOOTBALL at Upton Park.

  24. Win lose or draw, it's always a win for Bazball.🤣

  25. What was Piers Morgans tip………………………….Headline: Ashes lost due to – Climate Change and Global Raining. 🤣😂😅

  26. Maybe bazbal is so instinctive a style of play – so individualistic – that getting things right in a team sense like making effective declarations is impossible. There’s an absence of coherence in the bazbal approach -is this a team or individual sport? Seems to me the bazballers are saying it’s 100% an individual sport. ‘Play like you feel’. If they had just played good hard cricket they probably would have won the series, as the Aussies have been strangely off their game almost all the time (esp. 4th test). Hopefully they find their mojo at The Oval.

  27. Big mouths usually fail, whinging Pommy bastards. (:
Nevertheless Cummins must go as Aussie captain. His field placings were negative from the very first ball bowled in the series.

  28. They were told rain was coming. They used 57 overs continuing to bat when they could have been bowling at Australia. Should have had the courage to declare 1st and 4th test

  29. England would be 3 nil up if Bairstow was able to keep at test level.

  30. Tell that to history books… stokes may never have an ashes victory under his belt… no way he'll be playing in 4 years time

  31. lol we're bestest and most cleverest boys that ever failed to win the ashes

  32. It’s just a dreadful ending when England absolutely dominated the 4th Test at manchester.England actually was the better team without a doubt.Rain decided the Ashes NOT Australia.

  33. One series too far for Jimmy Anderson, Two Tests too few for Chris Woakes, Three Tests too many for Ollie Robinson, Four Tests too many for Jonny Bairstow behind the stumps, and 5 out of 10 for the selectors. That's why they were 2 down and up against it. The declaration in the first Test, non-declaration in the last Test, the Bairstow run-out incident all minor irrelevancies and distractions in the overall scheme of things.

  34. Haha – so many crowing Aussie comments… you’d have gone down 3-2 if there wasn’t rain… England played the better cricket, eye test showed that and the stats shows the biggest dominance for 20 years… . England are taking test cricket to another level… .

  35. England is putting on a brave face, but BAZ BALL went to their heads. Should have declared earlier on day 3. For all their bleating about taking the game on and risking defeat to chase a win, they failed. They knew it would be a 3 day test and FAILED to adjust their egos.

  36. Q: "By the rain… -But is it a bigger disappointment that you found yourselves 2-0 down in the first place and left yourselves such a big job over the last three tests?"
    Stokes: "No not really."
Seriousy? Could honestly say that's an outrageous statement tbh
Objectively – YES! Of course it is!

  37. This decision is unfair

  38. Rain………….. Just not in the spirit of the game is it? I think the Aussies cheated with doing rain dances at night in their hotel rooms….. Either that or its Trump's fault.

  39. Just wish Warnie was still with us.He would have called England out over all this complaining and whinging!
Get a grip England and play smarter cricket

  40. I may be half blind, but even I can tell, England has played the better cricket here. The right score should have read 3 : 1 in england's favor. This england team is exceptionally good. You cannot blame the weather for being what it is, always more foul than fair.

  41. Let the whinging begin. 🤣👍

  42. You were dominant but never underestimate the redeeming power of the universe. The universe always makes sure that everyone gets what they deserve. Stokes spoke well here but throughout the series there has been too much said by the English to inflame things and bully our players. Maybe it pays to take a bit more responsibility for yourselves.

  43. Congratulations Australia for retaining the "URN". Now please smash the poms at Oval and win the damn series to shut them up.
