Authorities say at least eight dogs were found dead due to heat-related illnesses after the air conditioning in the cargo area of the truck transporting the canines to a training facility in Michigan malfunctioned. WMAQ’s Natalie Martinez reports.

No excuses for this.When transport animals in the hot weather,the driver should check on animals and give water.

Absolutely outrageous. At least 27 police dogs have died in hot vehicles this year along…and those are the ones we know about. The driver should not have been allowed to leave the scene. The dogs were piled in tiny crates, two high, packed to the door of a box truck. What water bowls were found were the size of bird bowls. The driver was belligerent and abusive toward the humane society head when asked to produce paperwork, then allowed to drive off with what dogs were still standing unsecured in that same non cooled truck.

Oh no! This is horrid.
That is sickening that these dogs had to suffer like that. There were warning reports around the country about excessive tempetures during this time, yet these dogs were put on an hot truck without access to cool air and water. Who was in charge of this decision?
The Police let that driver take off because they PANICKED that citizens saw the condition's of their k9's.

Just look at the condition of all those dogs. What does the Police do, look for dogs that look like they haven't been feed for 6 month. This us the saddest thing I have ever seen.
Human beings are despicable. Criminal charges and punishment to the fullest extent of the law.

😠 What a torturous way to die. 🙏 Please charge the dogs owner and careless driver with negligent and animal cruelty! This kennel should be scrutinized over and/or shut down for how they really bred and treated dogs as they obviously cared little about the animals that made them money.

IF they were destined to be 'trained' as Police dogs, I do not believe it. The ones they show are bone thin with the ribs sticking out. No food, no water , cramped cages, no spot check, no way to relieve themselves and how long till they saw their state were they were kept in the dark like this? Someone is evading the truth. NO POTENTIAL 'POLICE DOG' IS EVER TRANSPORTED OR TREATED LIKE LAB RATS. They would be treasured & transported like the worth and gold that they are & meant for. I wonder what is the name of that 'Training Facility?
The driver’s only obligation was to transport the cargo from point A to point B. blame the dog owners for being cheap!
There is no excuse for this, anyone with half a brain would make sure every mechanical function of the transport vehicle was at 100 % before departing with even 1 dog. This is criminal animal abuse!!

Why did the POLICE not allow paperwork to be shown to the Humane Society & let the driver continue to transport live & dead animals. EVERY dog should have immediately been removed & taken from that driver. I guess because Indiana laws feel that animals are nothing more than purchased property they were allowed to finish transporting. INDIANA citizens need to do better & get those laws changed.🤬

To me that looks like God's response to officers unlawfully and spitefully turning their attack dog loose on an innocent, amen thank you Jesus Jehovah Jireh the Lord provides. Rest in peace trained attack dogs.
This is the most blatant act of animal abuse I've ever heard of. What's more infuriating is that a police department is involved and claiming innocence to the driver transporting the dogs. Very sickening. RIP to those K9 that didn't make their journey. 😠
The fact the driver was able to continue on with those poor animals, inconceivable. No papers, unsafe conditions, several died.💔
