You must understand that God cannot allow you to go to heaven because he is a holy judge who must punish sin with a burning hell so it's very important that you feel sorry over your sinful condition. If you do there is hope for you:
Jesus is God and left heaven, came down to earth, died on the cross, and raised himself from the dead. He did this so His blood can wash away all your sins for you. That is your only way to heaven, what He did on the cross, not what you do.
You cannot wash away your sins by doing good things such as going to church, avoiding sin etc, it's faith alone in what Jesus did on the cross. If you can believe that then all you have to do is say that to God.
If you're not sure what to say you can say this: Dear God, I am sorry for being a sinner. I believe Jesus is God who died and resurrected so his blood can wash away my sins. I trust in that alone and not my own good works. In Jesus' name I pray Amen.

This court appearance is only giving him the details of where he will go to court what judge is going to be taking on the case as well as knowing the district attorneys as well as will they lower his bail or will it stay the same. As well as his own lawyer, Michael Brown, and how he wants to approach the case during this court date, they may even offer him a plea deal.
