Heart doctor leaves Louisiana over state’s anti-LGBTQ laws

Dr. Jake Kleinmahon, the director of the “only” pediatric heart transplant center in Louisiana, says he’s moving from New Orleans to New York after legislators passed anti-LBGTQ+ bills. Kleinmahon said his decision to leave has been “distressing” since it may leave “a hole for medical care” in the state. WDSU’s Aubry Killion reports.

  1. This is such bs. Louisiana banning gender affirming care for minors doesn't directly affect this doctor at all. He is grown and there aren't any restrictions on what he can do to his body. If he doesn't care about protecting children, he is in the wrong profession and Louisiana should consider themselves lucky for him to leave.

  2. Shut up man, it’s unnatural lol

  3. What a misleading title, the law that was passed is to protect children from gender mutilation. How is his life as a pediatric cardiologist impacted by banning gender mutilation for children? This man is playing the victim, when the real victims are the children whose bodies have been mutilated by the help of the state and parents. I also feel sorry for those children who have been robbed of having a mom and a dad in the home because two men wanted to fulfill their desire for children.

  4. Crying cos you aren’t allowed anymore to cut children 😂

  5. Now we just need to limit the people of Louisiana from being able to access medical care across state lines.
Having a few of their children die from treatable conditions… would show the importance of inclusive state policies

  6. They one thing . I do not care a bout . What others life ? Easy way stop talking about
I just shut my mouth…. Stop talking

  7. When are the people going to retaliate?!!. I wish peace upon everyone in this atrocious situation. May peace enter this world and never leave

  8. This is where we are now. IS THIS ACCEPTABLE TO YOU?!?! Fight against this fear and hate.

  9. Meh!! He probably got a better job !! Good luck

  10. Gender affirming care SHOULD be banned for minors. Do what you want with your body when you're an adult and then don't expect insurance to pay for it. 🤷

  11. Nice, get out of those Satan worshipping right wing states

  12. He’s a cutie! See you in NYC

  13. Are they wearing the same shoes!!!

  14. This is wrong. Full stop.

  15. Just more good news for leftists. As these specialists flee right-wing states, they end up in blue states which permits democrats and leftists to live longer, healthier and safer lives.

  16. 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️. When we moved from CO to ID we were expecting and our OBGYN warned us very strongly about ID as if it was a backwards state….but she didn’t know we were from that place we knew what we liked and CO wasn’t it. Anyhow, she tried hard to scare us because her whole political views looked at ID’s anti abortion laws as scary. We love Idaho and have been here for many months now. Not only does my wife have better healthcare here, but it’s cheaper, faster, AND we don’t have to fight to enter the city to find parking and possibly get a 1st year resident to see her. No, we get experienced doctors AND they worry about the mom and most of all, the child. So, to each their own. I’m sure he’ll be fine in NYC. If that doesn’t work out. San Fran or Denver would welcome him with open arms. But idk if he’d fit in Boise much 😂

  17. The same thing is happening in Florida, Health Care workers are leaving in droves, the irony of these ridiculous laws is that the people they are harming the most are the very same people who support these laws.

  18. Children are going to die because Louisiana decided to try to legislate LGBT people out of the state. Which matters not a single whit to the people pushing this legislation. They would sooner let all the children die than have a state that supports LGBTQ people's rights.

  19. Don't worry, Louisiana is know for their healthy population. Doctors aren't needed I'm the south in general.

  20. Very sad, but not surprising. I wish him and his family the best❤

  21. America………where the 21st century is as bad as the 19th

  22. It's no surprise, talents professionals pack up, let these states go back to the dark ages

  23. Those extremist are cheering to see his departures 😢

  24. It’s 2023 and people are still hating the LGBTQ+ community. I hope that these states realize the hole they are digging. Hard Right Republicans are so mean.

  25. It's just the start more will leave. All doctors should leave states that endorse hate period.

  26. Seeing a brain drain in Mississippi for quite some time. The anti abortion laws and anti lgbtq laws are both causing doctors to leave the state.

  27. Louisiana's residents voted these anti-LGBT people into office. Let them suffer the consequences. It's not until conservatives feel the full effect of their choices that they'll start voting differently.

  28. I’m sorry to hear that 💔

  29. Our Country is Heading Backwards 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

  30. Sooo…. he's leaving because Louisiana doesn't believe children should get permanent physical changes or become castrated, starting as early as possible? Good riddance! We need to protect children and their futures, not people's emotions and ideologies.

  31. If you can go, go where you are accepted. My heart breaks for him, and more so for the thousands who are not accepted but cannot afford to leave.

  32. New York is lucky to gain a human like him. New Orleans has lost out.

  33. So Louisiana passes laws about gender, affirming healthcare which is the nice way of saying chopping off perfectly good body parts to turn a child into the gender you want them to be just to create trans kids. I don’t know what on earth that has to do with this man and his family. They seem like a good couple with a good family, so I don’t know what his problem is. I think he’s being overly emotional about something that doesn’t involve him or his family at all. Neither he or his husband are trans nor is it possible for them to be affiliated or affected by anybody who is trans. He ought to just stay there and continue his work. All the stuff about LBGTQ people not being welcome in is absolute nonsense.

  34. Awesome. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.

  35. LA is one of the hillbilly States. It’s good he’s getting out of there. LA Lawmakers don’t care abt babies/children/ families.

  36. Very sad. Welcome to black in America

  37. New York is lucky to have him. Keep your family first in mind and keep doing good work. Anti lgbt bigots deserve every repercussions due to this and many other talents leaving their state.
