Nursing pillows linked to over 160 babies’ deaths since 2007

More than a million nursing pillows are sold in the U.S. each year. However, an NBC News investigation found more than 160 babies have died in incidents involving the pillows since 2007, most commonly when used as sleeping devices or to prop babies up. NBC News’ Vicky Nguyen has more details.

  1. So the daycare workers weren't watching is what it sounds like, correct? Yet this makes it sound like it is the fault of the pillow.

  2. 6 week infant left face down on a pillow at a daycare. They should sue the daycare for neglect.

  3. It’s called a nursing pillow, not a sleeping pillow I feel like this should be obvious. It’s sad the babies died but it’s clear that it’s the fault of adults not the pillows itself

  4. The childcare is at fault from neglect.

  5. That is completely the fault of the daycare, not the pillow. That facility should be shut down.

  6. Hold the baby. This is lazy behavior, and obviously dangerous.

  7. “ we are not gonna blame parents for not using the product as directed” 🙄

  8. “Face down”? That seems more like negligence than a defect with the pillow. I don’t even have kids & know you probably should never leave a child face down on anything…

  9. Parents should really learn how to use them right and not leave their baby alone around any pillow.

  10. Babies are overrated.

  11. Pete Bootygeg hubby uses one

  12. Paid parental leave for both parents needs to be longer. It is shocking how soon she got back to work. USA is the worst place to grow a family. It’s too capitalistic to even care about families.

  13. Never put your baby to sleep on their Stomach theyvneed to sleep on their backs

  14. Poor woman so sorry for your loss I can’t imagine it

  15. Oh my Goodness I’m glad my Daughter never used it

  16. It’s not the nursing pillows it’s irresponsible adults.

  17. 160 deaths in 16 years. That’s 10 babies per year, in a population of 330 million people. As tragic as it is, and traumatic for the families, it’s hardly worth a headline. How many children died in the same time due to accidents in sports, transportation or due to gun violence?

  18. Can someone explain to me how the babies die by these pillow? Sorry, I'm confused on what happen or how it happens that cause the babies death.

  19. i blame person using the pillows, just as i blame the people using firearms. common sense safety.

  20. How many babies have died involving neglectful parenting?…. It's not the pillow but the adult…

  21. So many social media moms are still showing how they use it to prompt their babies (and so proud of themselves)….

  22. You can't leave your children with anyone you must take them to work with you!

  23. All adults need to supervise their babies.

  24. People responsible for the babies left them ALONE. It is not the product itself but negligent caregivers responsible for feeding the child. It is Criminal Negligence on the sole part of the Caretakers of these dead babies. Trying to milk a company for a misused product is just a heftier cash grab.

  25. Just read What to Expect When You're Expecting and What to Expect the First Year. The sad truth is these deaths are caused by ignorance. In fact, these books state it's optional to use any pillow to nurse, and get rid of it afterwards. Dress the baby appropriately for the temperature, and don't put them to sleep with ANY blanket, pillow or plush toy. Just a mattress.

  26. So the innocent baby was left unattended face down on the pillow with a blanket over her and suffocated. And it's the pillows fault?
Things like this did not happen back in the day when people did their jobs, cared about their jobs, respected themselves and did not leave helpless children face down in beds, on pillows or on blankets unattended and blame the pillows.
This is absolutely the fault of the daycare worker!!!
No parent should ever have to bury their sweet child.

  27. How is this news when it’s the parents fault for trusting others with her child. Also how is this news when 162 doesn’t compare to the millions killed by abortions

  28. I hope she doesn't put this baby in daycare!!!!

  29. They’re not for sleep. Period.
