  1. Wild fires happen when there are more structures than trees and vegetation. When human build more structures and cutting away natural forest the natural balance cause destruction, such fires, flood storms, climate heating and natural resource depletion. The only way to lessen natural disasters is less human destruction to mother nature. Mother nature has no differential treatment toward any of her children, she issue seeking balance in her world, Earth. When one is affected others are also affected, human can not truly know Mother Nature.

  2. I'm in the Canadian province of Alberta. Seeing the devastation in Lahaina reminds me of the wildfire which decimated the oil town of Fort McMurray. Like Lahaina, the residents of Ft. Mac also only had one road out of town.
I wish the best for everyone who's been affected by the fire, especially the residents who now have to deal with the aftermath of this disaster.

  5. Wait. The young woman being interviewed was sayiing she was on vacation in Maui but when the reporter asked her where she stayed, the young lady said "we went to my high school"😶.
So, is she really a resident of Maui?
If she's on vacation to the island, how is it that she's staying at "her high school"?🤔

  6. We must help Lahaina immediately. From raising billions for the building to saving The Banyan Tree. So start organizing charities, set go fund me apps, and others who have business around the world start raised a lot funds and get fresh water and fresh plant food for the banyan please! 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

  11. Oh that’s so sad…I drive the road to hanna years ago and now it’s the road to devastation. 😢 bless the residents, animals, island.

  12. Properties still worth millions..

  13. How did the fires start?

  14. It appears very strong hurricane winds uprooted electric poles which started the fires. I am originally from Bangalore, India. We don't have hurricanes there but we experience very strong winds during the monsoon which uproot trees and electric poles. During such events, as a precaution, the power company deliberately shuts off all power transmission in the city until the storm passes. I am not an expert on this but this is something we need to look into doing here in the US.

  15. OMG we have to stop treating the planet like a trash 🗑️ dump and start treating the planet like we want to be treated.

  16. It’s sad. Seems like a lot of history was lost. Would be nice to see locals owning more homes. 😢

  33. A friend and I departed Maui yesterday afternoon. We had to evacuate our hotel for the night. After that, we caught a Lyft ride back to the hotel and since it was our last day anyways, we packed, tried to discover how bad the airport was by phone calls to no avail, and went to the airport early.

Hawaiian Airlines fixed us up within ten minutes at the ticket counter with an early flight to Honolulu to connect with their nonstop flight to Las Vegas, my hometown. Hawaiian Airlines impressed me. The evacuation crews were great, too. Maui's people are beautiful and I pray the best for them.

I hope leaving the island today and the next couple of days will remain as simple as it was for us.
