More than four tons of trash was cleaned up from Lake Tahoe and its surroundings after the Fourth of July holiday weekend, according to the League to Save Lake Tahoe Blue, a non-profit that works to preserve the freshwater lake and its surroundings.

More than 400 volunteers, including residents and visitors, collected over 8,500 pounds of cigarette butts, plastic food wrappers, beach toys, beer boxes — and even barbecues — from six popular beach sites, nearby parking lots, and streets around the Tahoe basin over three hours on July 5.

  1. 😂😂😂😂 All those WOKE UC College kids validating “Do As I Say, Not As I Do” liberal hypocrisy in stunning video.

  2. That's wonderful of those ppl to pick all that up!! Terrible all that was left by ppl though. Boy,,, some ppl have NO SHAME.

  3. The video is absolutely right. The North Lake Tahoe drone show left their small viewing area much cleaner as compared with the fireworks show at South Lake Tahoe. However, the video makes the implication that fireworks were somehow involved in producing the clutter at the South Lake show.

The video made no mention that at least 100,000 people were at the South Lake event as compared to near a disastrous turnout up north. There is no excusing of South Lake attendees for what they did. But not enough was done to prevent the foreseeable results of this large crowd disbursing in the dark. In all of the images of the mess, not even one single trash can could be found. These people were there to enjoy an evening with family and friends and were not intentionally disruptive. It is not simply the case that only drone show viewers pick up after themselves in the dark – come on now, really?
The fireworks contractor provided extensive resources to make sure that the show met extremely rigid pollution protocols. The lake bottom is photographed before the show and again after their divers make their bottom collections. They hire multiple boat crews to make net sweeps of the area for several days.
Again, the videos show that the trash was not even remotely the result of the fireworks. It was primarily due to careless spectators. There was in addition, more than normal beach wash up – this, the result of an unusually harsh winter. Even Emerald Bay froze over for the first time in some 30 years. Winter was followed by the prevailing winds switching more to the West in late spring bringing the accumulated debris ashore. All this contributing to the mess.
Drone and laser shows of themselves do not attract large crowds of people year after year. Fireworks are a part of our culture and people will travel for hours to see them. Drones are not the answer unless you want to encourage more people to do their own show. Ask your fire chief if DIY fireworks are a good alternative.
We stand up for the National Anthem, we pledge allegiance to our flag, we want to do the right thing. Now we need to focus on how we can assist people in doing that.

  4. Did they weigh all that trash to get that amount 8.5 tons?
Seems like they didn't have a plan in place to prevent that from happening on July 3rd…

  5. 0:01 — trans people leaving their queer beer all over the place.

  9. The solution is simple: Make Tahoe a National Park. However, it will never happen. Tahoe is dead.

  17. Must of been CA visitors! People in CA claim to want to save the earth and go green yet have the dirtiest state. Ive never picked up so much trash out of state forests & National parks as I have here. Which is nothing compared to most city streets in CA. Just disgusting!
