Carlee Russell, an Alabama nursing student who was reported missing after she said she saw a toddler walking on an interstate, has returned home.

Police have been unable to confirm whether there was a child on the highway. “Carlee’s 911 call remains the only timely report of a child on the interstate,” Hoover police said in a statement.
At 10:44 p.m. local time Saturday, the Hoover Police Department’s 911 center received a call saying Carlethia “Carlee” Nichole Russell had returned home on foot, according to police.
Hoover Fire Department medics checked on Russell before taking her to UAB Hospital for evaluation, Hoover police said. She was later released.

A few years ago, I lived in Hoover at Ashby at Ross Bridge Apartments. I used that same exact exit every day. I was driving home one night when some guy in a mustang started slowing wayyy down in front of me. I wasn’t sure what he was doing, but I didn’t stop. I floored it and passed him….. and then he followed me home. Right in my apartment parking lot. And he just sat there at the end, headlights on my car. I stayed in my car and called my roommate — and when she walked outside, he slowly pulled behind a building & out of sight. We ran inside and called the cops. From our upstairs window we could see him drive down the dead end street, so the Hoover cops went looking for his car and gave him a warning.
But after that, he kept coming back to our complex. He’d park outside our building. Use the car vacuums. Pace around. Whatever. For hours and hours. But when I called the cops and also the apartment office, he told them ‘a friend in the apartment had invited him’….. So… they just let him keep doing it because he hadn’t committed a crime.
I was only 25, 115 lbs, living with another girl… and this guy knew my car and my building…. And would just hang out outside. I will never forgot how I felt that second time the Hoover cops came, and all they did was pal around with him in the parking lot and admire his mustang. I was afraid for my safety and the Hoover good ole boys could not have cared less.
In summary, I wouldn’t trust a single thing that comes out of that police department unless the Russell family states it themselves.
