2) Even if the claim of racism is true, it is just another act of subversion against US military via propaganda.
3) King was set to face disciplinary action in the US for assault and damaging a police car in South Korea. Fleeing to North Korea is a clear sign of desertion and cowardice to face justice.
In short, there is no gain but humiliation in fighting for his release.
