The Tuohy family, made famous by the film “The Blind Side,” call the lawsuit brought by former NFL player Michael Oher “ludicrous.” NBC News’ Kaylee Hartung has more details on the family disputing Oher’s accusation that he was tricked into a conservatorship instead of being adopted.

  1. "he got every dime he had comin'…..wow, you don't see they have a blind side.

  2. He’s not suing them; he’s filing a petition to have the conservatorship dissolve. Details matter, NBC.

  3. Ungrateful generation
    Nobody should have helped him
    And now nobody will again

  4. Last night I was watching a video about this and it said that all 4 of the family members were paid for the movie, but Michael was not. I realized that I assumed, like many others, that the movie is about Micheal's life. But it isn't. It's about the Touhy's family. Specifically the mother. It's just another white savior movie.

  5. What is weird is why the Tuohy's wont end the conservatorship THAT INDEED EXISTS, but want to fight Micheal and attempt to drag his name through the mud? Thats guilty behaviour

  6. Someone needs to do a parody of this , but with a black family adopting a white kid! Wayans family, are you listening?

  7. Oher is getting some really bad advice. If no Sean Tuohy, NO BOOK, NO MOVIE, No Michael Oher. It is all a Lie!

  8. They should’ve left him on the streets where they found him. Typical

  9. This is incredibly sad. If the family was sincere I hope they can all find their way back to each other. But he said he found out something in February of this year that changed the way he saw what happened. Knowing what that is will go a long way in trying to figure out what really happened. I don't see how he could be making these claims without proof since all of this stuff seems like it could be easily documented. My jury is still out.

  10. The Tuohy family lawyers give me the creeps. The whole thing stinks. A conservatorship and adoption are two very different legal agreements. In MO’s case the latter would have been entered into if they truly loved him whereas the conservatorship assigns control to the Tuohy’s and provides a legal framework for them to potentially abuse and profit from MO’s hard work. He must have been devastated to learn the family not only didn’t adopt him (which WAS a valid option for them) but also took so many of his fundamental rights away. The following are a few red flags to explore further:
    1. Aunt Debbie (the family’s lawyer and not a family member). Represented all parties when setting up the Conservatorship. Why did she wrongly advise the family Adoption was not an option? Or did the family lie to MO about the available option? Why did she not advise MO to get his own legal Counsel?
2 Why did the judge approve the Conservatorship? There doesn’t appear to be any grounds for doing so given it states in the legal documents that MO is in good physical and mental health.
    3. Interesting timing that the father passed away in unusual circumstances shortly before the Conservatorship was proposed – apparently.
    4. Was the author of the book a family friend? The story was written soon after the Conservatorship was entered into – seems a little suspicious to me. The rights were sold to the film studio shortly afterwards 🤔
    5. Who decided MO would be portrayed as someone with learning difficulties when in the Conservatorship legal documents it states MO has full mental capacity.
    6. Why did the family not include MO’s name as a receiver of profits for his story? Apparently they only listed themselves and their two blood children.
    7. Why did they continue the lie about adopting MO to further line their pockets through various Foundations, speaking gigs, books, website etc?
    8. Why were no financial accounts submitted for each year of the Conservatorship? This needs to be resolved. It will be interesting to see how much ‘Aunt Debbie’ profited from this arrangement!

MO references the Conservatorship in earlier books AND also includes his understanding that this was the way the family adopted him. He doesn’t appear to understand the difference at this stage in his life. The story of Britney Spears and her own legal battles helped educate the world on how Conservatorships can be abused and used for nefarious intentions.

  11. This is why you dont pick up stray animals.

  12. https://youtu.be/v389WAfvfF4. The Tuohys are right on this one. What a shame, they should have never helped this man in the first place!

  13. So help me understand. The narrative, depicted in the movie, of the dumb, poor black kid who gets saved by benevolent white people is exploitive and damaging to the very person they claim to love. These “parents” agree to such a false and demeaning portrayal, and sign a lifetime conservatorship, which lawyers have speculated was done to protect his NCAA status. The Tuohy’s take the profits from the movie and give each of their biological kids a $300k trust fund earned from Michael Oher’s hard work and athletic talent. (Even though they supposedly don’t need the money.) And somehow, they’re the victims? Talk about a blind spot.

  14. Rule number one never make a profit off of someone’s name if you’re not going to pay him

  15. Who cares about this story?

  16. Michael refused royalties per Lewis and now he's complaining about not getting money. Lewis made only $70,000 from the movie. Blame Hollywood not the family.

  17. Oh wow, this is really sad!!

  18. The media adding nice touched to this one! Showing clips of the movie at the "right" time.

  19. I think we all believed the movie and thought he was adopted into that family. For me it's little to do with the money, but that one lie. There is no age limit for adoptions, so it's very disingenuous to create a false halo-effect for themselves by making up a story of white people being righteous to beggaring black folks. If you're gonna help people, don't let your right hand know what you're left hand is doing – keep it secret that only God sees, and that He alone rewards. And please don't go make a Hollywood movie that exaggerates your own goodness without getting any input from the main person involved.

  20. I wonder if they would have taken him in, a neglected, virtually homeless black kid from the projects, if he wasn't a football star in high school. They knew there was something in it for them. That's what I think anyway.

  21. Ngrateful piece of excrement!!!! Should of left him in the street where they found him. He must of blown all his money and are coming after the white family that helped him!!!!! This is disgusting!!!!!!

  22. He’s a lost cause. Should’ve let his terrible family continue to fail him.

  23. Why were they seeking a conservatorship at all? It makes no sense in this situation. Mike is of sound mind and body. They need to explain this

  24. Never trusted them, nor Sandra Bullock’s version. I’m from the South and have been around Christians my whole life. I see through false humility.

  25. unsure whos being truthful but always comes down to money in the end smh

  26. So they saw a talented athlete with no family and they took advantage over that, putting him in a conservatorship and profiting off of him.

Makes the story make WAY more sense… why else would this family take in a random, giant-sized kid from the hood

  27. Burned thru his NFL money and now he wants more, nothing more nothing less.
