A Georgia sheriff and his deputies escorted a 4-year-old girl whose father was killed in the line of duty to her first day of elementary school. NBC News’ Kristen Welker has more on the gesture that started the school year with smiles and support.

That’s such a nice thing that her father’s close friends and family are giving her a good start for her elementary, despite her devastating and tragic death of her father that must have definitely impacted her and the rest of her family massively. This reminds me of Officer Norman. A little girl dad passed and before he passed he would take her to school on her first day police escort style. So officer Norman and a few other officers sent her off in style just like her daddy would. It was so emotional ❤❤

That was very sad and terrible what happened to her father. It was also so nice from the officers to bring her such a gift on the first day of school in terms of bringing the officers together to honor his legacy. May God bless them all.

If her dad passed in 2018 and she was about 3 in her last picture with him, she's about 8 or 9 in 2023, not 4.
