Maybe that shows they're immune system has weaken over the years. You can look healthy but if you get cut in a dirty area then of course you can get sick.
Drink plenty of mint and ginger tea. Eat it raw if you have to.

I almost guarantee that this is from the water. If you charted the participants, I’ll bet the top finishers were fine and people finishing closer to last got sick. Unfortunately, and I do hate to say this, people vomit, urinate, and defecate during these events. In a dry road race or trail run I wouldn’t be concerned. However, in this case everyone is literally swallowing soup…
The other alternative is that the water and/or soil were contaminated somehow before the race but unless they’re doing these races on septic leach beds I doubt that is the culprit.
Regardless, always shower and use antibacterial soap after these events and use laundry sanitizer on your clothes too.
