Six coins and a commemorative medal were found in what appeared to be an empty time capsule.

No one saw them at first, but later, six old coins, dating from 1795 to 1828, and a commemorative medal from 1826, were found among the thick, caked silt at the bottom of the 1-foot, lead cube they had been inside for nearly 200 years.
U.S. Military Academy officials opened the box on Monday.
The new revelation, announced Wednesday, is a bit of redemption for Lt. Gen. Steve Gilland, the academy superintendent who had said the live-streamed reveal wasn’t just hype: something was inside the time capsule.

I'm a little suspicious myself..you go through all the hype and open it on tv/online portals and have the little rubber gloves on and….you dont sift through it live..cmon man you arent gonna harm that dust..I'm calling bogus even if it is West Point and Honor is at the top of the list..you would dig in the box and find the coins live??? and 6 pennies and a token/medallion..ok maybe the coins belonged to GW and the silk printed paper would have told the story…

the lead box was to keep out radiation they wanted to put something in it that had a date on it. They thought the sun was going to cook the earth again as it flooded and reset everything.
