Student loan interest resumes, but some are celebrating forgiven debt

After the U.S. Supreme Court blocked the Education Department’s plan for widespread student loan cancellation, the Biden administration has been using other avenues to offer some student loan borrowers relief. Shaquille Brewster talks to borrowers grateful to have their debt forgiven.

  1. On 8/21/23 I was Blessed (God's Children aren't lucky, we're blessed) to receive an email stating that the Biden/Harris administration had forgiven my loans that were 25 yrs old. I borrowed $40k in grad school which defaulted within 5 years of me graduating. That turned into $110k. The interest over 25 years later ballooned into a whopping $327k! I've been believing God to TOTALLY FORGIVE my loans since 2020. I receive this recent news of TOTAL FORGIVENESS as nothing less than a MODERN DAY MIRACLE! Hallelujah! 🦋🌹

  2. is called bribing 😂

  3. "yeah the ai will come up with a solution" 🙂 duh

  4. OMG, Who is paying for this? Money doesn’t grow on trees. We’re already $33 trillion in the hole. $33 trillion!

  5. Those people calling on a boycott of student loan payments, what the H___, that's money you borrowed and are on the hook for it, you had 3 years you didn't have to make any payments, you could have keep making payments, pull the money to in a high yield savings account or anything else, but you should haven't spent it, so, if you don't pay back the student loans, you are looking at a hit to your credit score (people fail to realize how important this is) and possible wage garnishing, not to mention the real problem, any amount not paid rolls over into the principal amount owed, meaning you only increasing the amount of the student loan, note, interest rates can actually increase if you miss your student loan payment and for those of you thinking I will just declare bankruptcy, that won't work like you think

  6. If this country can send trillions to other countries on a daily basis. Then actually finding a way to figure out all the red tape for this scam. Should be done. Collage education is the biggest scam.

  7. That’s great that ppl are getting help. However, give us the ppl who also sacrificed quality of living to pay them off!!!!! Give me back my $50k because I too can use them.

  8. How is this fair….i need a refund on all the money i paid for college

  9. So happy for these people 🙏❤️✨️

  10. I was lucky enough to be able to pay off my student loans soon after I graduated. I'm beyond happy for these folks to find some financial relief in these tough times. If they're in a position to receive student loan forgiveness, that means they had to endure the financial burden for too long. They've paid plenty into the system with interest, along with their taxes. These are life-changing forces for some, like the woman who has never owned a car. She's able to move on with her life to do new and better things with the mobility that a lot of us take for granted.

  11. It's not fair that paid all my student loans. But they won't refund me back. It's going to be hard for taxpayers to pay more tax. Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University needs to be taught in colleges.

  12. I'm glad some people were able to have their student debt cancelled, wouldn't be bad at all if they could also get at least some of their money back from all those years they shouldn't have had to pay.

While cancelling student debt is a temporary solution, it will help a lot of people to have that extra money. Congress, Biden, the Dept. of Education, someone should tackle the root of the issue: Highly inflated college tuition. It's not fair to ask people to pay tens of thousands, not to mention hundreds of thousands depending on the college, to get an education. Especially when those that went to college decades before us were paying $3k a year in tuition for the same education. Those of us asking for student debt relief are not complaining about having student debt, we're complaining about being charged so much money. Yes, we made a commitment to pay X amount of money, but it's a commitment that is unfair in the first place. But we agreed to it nonetheless because we wanted to get that good job to make that good money.

If that education gets you that job with the high salary, but you're stuck paying off student debt for decades, that's a problem. You shouldn't owe more to pay for that education than you make from using that education.

  13. I got bills needing payment. Must be nice to have someone pay them for you.

  14. I won’t be getting mine but I’m glad these people got theirs!

  15. The worst mistakes ever have a college loan, and the government canceled the loan. No matter how sadness put you face online.

  16. Yeah! Does this mean that the government will start forgiving other debts? I want my $45K credit card debt gone! Please Biden.

  17. I took the opportunity covid gave me and paid off my student loans while they were frozen

  18. America continue to spoiled the irresponsible. Borrow money contract is a promise to pay until government rob tax payers to those who don’t keep those promise. I paid my student loan after 2 years of graduation.

  19. I wish conservative were that passionate about blocking billions going to Ukraine. Great job losing voters like me.

  20. this is an amazing reset. people have more financial freedom.

  21. This will likely exacerbate inflation

  22. I'm one of the lucky ones. $87000 wiped out. Gone. I'm free! 🙏🏻

  23. I paid my student loans, what a bunch of losers.. Sara go on a diet and start saving $ for a car TODAY!

  24. Charging so much for education that folks are begging for communism. It's really brilliant! Making vote buying legal it's just brilliant

  25. What we need now is home mortgages cancelled immediately. Wipe out everyone debt including credit card debt, home and housing debt. Free rent.

  26. This is the problem
They wipe out $40k of student loan and says I want to go into debt and get a car. Instead of saying I’ll save and invest my money. 😵‍💫

  27. Some ppl used the pause to pay the loans off too. The frozen interest was a gamechanger and interest as well as payments were frozen for years. We wont be on the news for simply meeting our obligations, but that is another group celebrating. That group will never have to personally worry about the loan scam ever again.

  28. Great way to teach Americans to not pay their bills. The true losers are those who worked hard to pay debt as soon as possible,

  29. What's next? To forgive: Mortgages, Car Loans, and Credit Cards? Who pays for all of this "forgiveness"?

  30. Sadly most degrees become no good in 2 year's. But you have a bill.

  31. Thank you Joe 🎉🎉🎉

  32. Biden did not forgive my wife’s student loans so I WILL BE VOTING FOR TRUMP!!!!
    #TRUMP24

  33. I'm 100% AGAINST this. Ya'll AGREED and SIGNED a binding LOAN agreement. I'm sorry that your $40,000 art degree didn't deliver a promising future. PAY UP!

  34. Amazing 🎉forgive it all JOE!!!

  35. if you have been paying for 39 years you've paid more than 3x what your original balance was…. so wrong to be charged that…

  36. I want my money back.
    With interest.

  37. I am sooo happy for them!! 🙌🙌

  38. Nah, they need to wipe the $10K in fed loans as he promised!! Thats why I voted for the guy
