I have questions
1. Was he drinking…at 20?
2. Where were his friends and frat brothers?
3. How does one "Fire through the door," if he already "broke in the door?"
I wonder if the deceased was a young republican thug who supported the 2nd amendment.
If so, he was killed by his own cherished 2nd amendment. No sympathy.
I believe this no more than an unfortunate, tragic, accident and that SC observes the "Stand your ground law"…..However, that in no way mitigates the culpability of the shooter….Ya CAN NOT shoot first and ask questions later, and this is the exact reason why. If you are startled awake at 2am, you immediately, get your gun, if it's a single-story home, crack the bedroom door, it its split level, come to the top of the landing, and shout" Who goes there, I am locked & loaded, take another step and i will blow your head off" (At that point i would assume the culprit would identify him/herself, "Don't shoot, i mean you know harm, i am a student at &%&&, I am unfamiliar with the area and got turned around in the nite, my apologies, sorry to disturbed you, i am leaving, please don't shot"…..The shooter took the life of an innocent 20yo KID, and should be charged with "Negligent homicide" or " manslaughter"….If they are acquitted by a jury, i can respect that.

Homeowners. Buy yourself a police Taser gun!! You have 20ft of accuracy!! Save yourself from killing a drunk college student. The kid didn't have a gun or weapon, this was totally avoidable. I understand why the homeowners reacted the way they did, but I wouldn't have shot a kid dead for it.
Here in Canada we aren't allowed to shoot people at all, and they should give the shooter 99 years and see these shootings decrease drastically.Fearing for his life, but never once feared for someone else's life.Far too many idiots with guns in the USA, and few know how to properly and safely use them..Most of these American gun owners are too dumb to pass a Canada firearms safety exam, and would never have a gun in the first place, if they lived here.

Show us a picture and video of Nick's apartment. Let's investigate and see how similar they are. Maybe Nick was drunk? What was he doing out at 2:00 am in the morning? We need to investigate more. Imagine if Nick was an unarmed black man who was shot? This would be major national and international news. The homeowner would be probably classified as a racist who shot an unarmed innocent black man.
I'm curious….was he drunk or high? I would imagine that if an individual is sober and coherent, they would recognize their own home at 2a.m.

Beyond words unless someone breaks into your home… mistake or not.. you don’t know their intentions! It is a tragic event. The question is why did he break in the door and enter the home? ( per police call) why did he die on the porch? Easy he was short and staggered or fell backwards.
I guarantee anyone who thinks other things could have been done differently have not been in that situation. It is not a situation any wants to be in! Mom!!! Your children are home and someone is breaking your door in at 2 am…. What do you do? You protect yourself and your babies!
