  1. This is BS! It's her money. She's still a student/athlete, just working and earning money, not a full professional – yet. She's good enough to earn money, so why not? This is America, it's all about the money. In their logic she's only a s/a if she's broke. 🤔😐 Meanwhile, any dough the association can make off of her in any capacity, they will. Can the US Open hold onto her 💰* for a year? (*Plus interest).

  2. I would have taken it

  3. I am not sure what the story is here… College players Baseball Football Basketball players has been doing this for decades. Tennis makes almost nothing from tennis as the other sports. Is she a "victim"? I am just trying to understand what her point is…

  4. She certainly earned what she won. But why is she playing the pros instead of staying in the NCAAs? She should do one or the other.

  5. really hope she gets her money. that’s messed up…

  6. If professionals can now participate in the Olympics, this young lady should be able to keep her $80,000+ paycheck.

  7. I would take the 81k and use it to start my pro career … after a year you will have enough to pay for college 100 times …

  8. She either turns pro or stays on NCAA college track. That money is not hers.

  9. She deserves all she earned. College in this country has become a financial burden to many it is a backward way of thinking.

  10. Think about all the money these schools make off of these young athletes. Criminal that the students continue to suffer.

  11. Glad you spoke up. NO QUESTION SHE SHOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO KEEP THE MONEY. NCAA IS OUT OF CONTROL.

  12. Forget college tennis. Go pro and rake it in.

  13. I wish the tournament could hold it for her until she’s eligible

  14. Like you said Fiona, rules are rules. They are created so that they can allow student athletes to focus on their education and avoid corruption. To create a fair playing field for everyone. If you want to play professional tennis then forfeit your scholarship that you're currently enjoying that built you up as a player and helped win your qualifying round but you can't collect the scholarship money for years and then also collect professional payments at the same time. Let the scholarship money go to other students. No one is forcing the decision upon you Fiona, you can easily cash in your win but you must also forfeit your scholarship, return all the scholarship money you already collected which is in hundreds of thousands and pay your own tuition for the final year but you want to have the best of both worlds while breaking the rules. Now is that fair to the university, the student athlete program and the rest of your fellow student athletes? Venus and Serena played professionally but they also went to college and paid for their education. They didn't get any scholarship funds. Ben Shelton is also doing the same and he's studying while paying for his education. So why should you be the exception?

  15. you know it's unfair that men and women make the same women should play five sets at least! And when there's two trans women in the championship in the future because that's what would Happen if they let Men they call trans compete against the women it would be no chance! So should they still get equal pay? Because it couldn't beat a pro man and they are men!

  16. Is she a real biological woman. If so, im surprised a wanna be female hasn't stolen her victory.

  17. Nobody forced her to forfeit the money she had a choice so she chose to stay with college tennis, she still have a chance to play pro later. Stop being so dramatic.

  18. (Daniel 9:27 was fulfilled in August 13 2023 also when the woman began travailing in birth in order to fulfill the time of the gentiles for Revelation 12 to be fulfilled, Daniel 12:1 next, three riders were released within 2020 and 2023. These words are true and worthy, he who has ears to hear let him hear.)

“And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?”

Gospel of Matthew, chapter 24, verse 3.

“And he said, Take heed that ye be not deceived: for many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and the time draweth near: go ye not therefore after them. But when ye shall hear of wars and commotions, be not terrified: for these things must first come to pass; but the end is not by and by. Then said he unto them, Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven.”

Bible, Gospel of Luke, chapter 21, verse 8 to 11.

“All these are the beginning of sorrows. Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake. And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.”

Gospel of Matthew, chapter 24, verse 8 to 10.

“And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.”

Gospel of Luke, chapter 21, verse 25 to 28.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.”

Gospel of John, chapter 3, verse 16 to 18.

“For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep.”

First Corinthians, chapter 15, verse 3 to 6.

“Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee.”

    Acts, chapter 8, verse 22.

“Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

Gospel of John, chapter 3, verse 3.

“From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”

Gospel of Matthew, chapter 4, verse 17.

“After two days will he revive us: in the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live in his sight.”

    Hosea, chapter 6, verse 2.

“But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.”

Second Peter, chapter 3, verse 8.

“knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, and saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.”

Second Peter, chapter 3, verse 3 to 4.

“For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.”

First Thessalonians chapter 5, verse 3.

“For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.”

First Thessalonians, chapter 4, verse 16 to 17.

“in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.”

First Corinthians, chapter 15, verse 52.

“I tell you, in that night there shall be two men in one bed; the one shall be taken, and the other shall be left. Two women shall be grinding together; the one shall be taken, and the other left. Two men shall be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.”

Gospel of Luke, chapter 17, verse 34 to 36.

    ………

  19. Personally I would take the $81k and attend college but not play college tennis

  20. What a great, beautiful, levelheaded young woman.

  21. She definitely earned the money and deserves it. But at the same time, the rule does make sense. You can't be both a pro and college at the same time…

  22. The days are gone when tennis was a white person's game, anyone has the right to compete in any sports despite color

  23. She realized she’s not Black. 🤣

  24. Why aren't the women allowed to play 5 set?

  25. She knew the rules going into playing in these tournaments.

  26. That's completely wrong. She fought for it and deserves those winnings. It's not like another college is giving her gifts or any other sponsorships. It's really not different than if she had made that money working a full-time job. Hang the NCAA rules regarding that.

  27. Pay this girl her money!!!! Billy Jean King didn't fight all those years for this girl not to get paid over a stupid college policy!!!! NCAA: pay your athletes their funds in she can't get it from the US Open!

  28. A college student, an English major, says "ummm" every other word = WHAT AN EMBARRASSMENT

  29. What a great balanced player…go girl!

  30. Because NCAA is a scam, and they want to keep profiting off of their students without having to pay taxes or anything for it. It's exploitative and disgusting.

  31. Well articulated Linsey!

  32. Speak your truth Fiona! Proud of you 🙌🏾

  33. I thought this was interesting, after 32 seconds i realized, I dont care

  34. Any college student who also performs non-academic work deserves an income and probably more. It's "extra effort" and the NCAA is failing as an organization by not allowing compensation. There's a multitude of policy options they could adopt to allow athletes to be compensated. I am surprised they haven't faced some sort of Class Action lawsuit by now.

  35. Great story! Unfortunately it's another example of how greedy and corrupt the NCAA is.

  36. As an underpaid PhD student prohibited from working outside my program, I’m totally sick of colleges keeping their students from making money.
