What she is saying about tennis is not true. Since around 1980 things have gotten better. I was just talking to a white friend of mine who around 35/40 years ago was in the south hitting with two black girls who went on to become stars. He took tremendous verbal abuse over this. There were many private tennis clubs even up until 10/15 years ago that wouldn't allow blacks as members. To bring up Althea Gibson is interesting. She was treated terribly by the tennis establishment when she came through in the 50's. The treatment she got was so bad it affected her forever. There are so many experiences that can be related by tennis players who came up in the 50's, 60's and even 70's which differ greatly from the picture this video paints.
I think that tennis is the greatest sport to play. It teaches you so much about persistence, fitness, poise, problem solving etc.. Have things improved ABSOLUTELY, but let's not whitewash the past and minimize what many had to go through.
Shame on the woman being interviewed who actually knows better.
