Give people a common purpose, pride in what they do, no matter what it is. National service is mostly considered an enlistment in the military but it should also involve civic works. We tried to half heartedly fund a program for this, but it’s all but forgotten. We need to re-invigorate programs to improve our cities and towns. Give people opportunity and job skills. Maybe even teach them how to manage money. All the best things that we removed from a high school education. Where now all they teach is to consume with debt.
