Frightening moments for a group of Texas Girl Scouts as a nearly 14-foot-long alligator appeared to charge toward them. Scout leaders and parents rushed the children to safety and no one was injured.

I am a 5th generation Floridan.
We know from growing up as children that you never shriek, scream or splash when a gator is near. It alerts the alligator thinking it is prey that is in distress and an easy target.
What also concerns me while watching all of these people out of the water just standing around, tells me they do not realize that alligators do not live in the water. They can be seen frequently walking around on terra firma.
An alligator can run faster than a human, as their long and powerful muscular tail allows them a tremendous burst of forward speed.
Always give a wide berth to an alligator on land or water!
This is why you NEVER feed alligators. They become unafraid of humans and come to expect food when they see them. Hopefully, Game & Fish will capture and relocate.

Alligator populations have been in the rise every since they began protected. They have four legs and every time there is a big rain/flood they move. They walk or swim I didn’t catch what lake here in Texas but I suspect most of them. The drainage system in the little town I live in serves as a highway for them. As all wild creatures my dad told me they all see us before we see them.

I always think about the little boy that got taken by the alligator at Disney world in Florida…. Just awful… I would never let my kids go near water with gators… I'm hesitant at the beach as well and won't go past my knees because my daughter and I had a run in with a shark in the outer Banks of North Carolina. Here in AZ they always say we don't have gators… But people are crazy and they have been known to release them into the wild. They found one that was mal nourished and he's been taken in and they named him Clem. There was another one found in Glendale… It's crazy.
