Food for thought, Colorado mountains where I live would be cool and dry. A body would decompose very differently than say, a Florida swamp (ie. Brian Laundry.) Obviously a body will decompose naturally over three years, but trace evidence could easily be preserved. There are places up here that have snow on the ground almost year round. Not an expert, but the thought occurred to me when I felt discouraged at how long it had been. Think of ancient artifacts found preserved in glaciers vs. those found in jungle environments. Dry, Freezing temps can almost stop time, so to speak.
