This is probably giving too much credit to McCarthy's intelligence, but I almost wonder if he didn't bash the Democrats specifically to make them turn on him. Every single day has been a battle for him, and I think he might just be tired and want out. And by blaming the Democrats, he might feel like he's saved face with the Republicans.

That does not say it's right, but partisanship is a thing. No one is going to keep McCarthy anyway with his double-talk, flip flop on Trump and 1/6 and his constant scheming . One of McCarthy’s most glaring flaws in my mind was that he did not want bipartisanship and considered the Democratic party as the Enemy—except when he desperately needed their help. It was entirely in line with his practices that he would bash them afterwards. I hate the divisiveness in U.S. Politics today, that only deprives the American people of good governance.
