Speaker Henry Clay lead the envoy to negotiated peace with Britain in 1814. Perhaps GOP is temporary placing a Speaker Trump to negotiate (in special envoy to N. Korea to meet with Putin on neutral ground) a “Ceasefire” in Ukraine at least until November 2024. A PR move to increase his polls, stop and need for spending in Ukraine, and let the US citizens decide who will eventually end this crisis in Ukraine: Trump or Biden. It’s the only option to significantly increase Trumps chances of re-election. Trump can then resign as Speaker to continue his campaign for president.
McCarthy 'got things done' by rolling over for the Democrats.
There is compromise and then there is surrender.
McCarthy came out of every negotiation with zip, zero, nothing. His first big challenge was the debt ceiling and it was a disaster. McCarthy's tactic was 'OK, whatever you want'.
He claims "I never give up". By the end of a McCarthy deal, he has nothing left TO give up, and his excuse is always the same "I only have a slim majority so we won't get everything we want". Which is an odd position to take since the Democrats always get everything THEY want and they have NO majority at all.
McCarthy had numerous warnings from numerous Republicans that he was at risk of being removed if he did not stop rolling over for Democrats, sometimes secretly, and giving them everything they wanted without consulting the House.
No one is pointing out the reality ….McCarthy was counting on the Dems to “save” his speakership, or watch him lose, wait for him to put his name in the hat to run again and then the Dems would get all of their wish list granted in order for their support. McCarthy said he’s not running for the speakership so now the Dems have helped to bring in someone who hopefully will kick their sorry butts
One person didn't vote out McCarthy…. one person made the other 217 reconfirm their choice. They didn't.
